Set It Up

Plot
Set It Up is a 2018 American rom-com film directed by Claire Scanlon, written by Katie Silberman, and starring Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Lucy Liu, and Taye Diggs. The movie follows the lives of two hardworking and dedicated assistants, Harper and Charlie. Harper, played by Zoey Deutch, is a determined and ambitious assistant to Kristen, a high-powered literary agent at a busy publishing house. On the other hand, Charlie, played by Glen Powell, is Kristen's rival, serving as an assistant to Patrick, a high-powered tech mogul. Both Kristen and Patrick are demanding and have unrealistic expectations, leaving Harper and Charlie to handle their busy schedules, long hours, and endless tasks. One day, while dealing with the chaos of their demanding bosses, Harper and Charlie come up with a genius idea to "set up" their bosses. They decide to arrange a blind date with each other in the hopes that their bosses will fall in love, be less demanding, and give them a much-needed break from the stress of their jobs. They present their idea to Kristen and Patrick, pretending it's their idea, and initially, both bosses agree to go along with the plan. Harper and Charlie's initial plan is to present Patrick as a wealthy and charming businessman, and Kristen as a cultured and sophisticated woman. However, things quickly take a turn as neither Patrick nor Kristen live up to their expected personas. Patrick is more interested in showing off his wealth and status, while Kristen turns out to be more of a sarcastic and cynical woman. Despite their initial disappointment, Harper and Charlie continue to facilitate the fake relationship between their bosses, all while they continue to secretly work together to find love for themselves. Throughout the movie, Harper and Charlie's relationship evolves from coworkers to friends, and eventually, they realize their feelings for each other. In a romantic twist, they start to open up to each other and share their vulnerabilities. Harper, who is struggling with her job and feeling unfulfilled, finds solace in Charlie and his genuine nature. Meanwhile, Charlie, who is tired of living in his father's shadow, starts to find his own path and discover his true identity. As the date between Kristen and Patrick becomes more frequent, they begin to show genuine interest in each other. Despite their differences, they bond over their shared love of coffee and old movies. Harper and Charlie watch from afar, proud of the progress their bosses have made, but also worried that their plan will backfire and ruin their chances of finding love for themselves. In a dramatic turn of events, Kristen and Patrick finally confess their love for each other on a romantic rooftop. Though initially hesitant, Harper and Charlie are overjoyed and relieved that their plan has succeeded, but they also worry about what will happen next. As Kristen and Patrick take their relationship to the next level, Harper and Charlie are left to navigate their own feelings for each other. The movie concludes with Charlie confessing his love for Harper, and to his surprise, she feels the same way. The final scene shows the four of them spending time together, with Kristen and Patrick happy in their new relationship and Harper and Charlie embracing their blossoming romance. Set It Up is a heartwarming and engaging rom-com that explores the complexities of love, friendship, and professional relationships. With its talented cast and witty dialogue, the movie offers a fresh take on the traditional rom-com genre, blending romance, comedy, and heartwarming moments to create a story that will leave viewers rooting for the characters.
