Sing: Thriller

Sing: Thriller

Plot

In this animated short, Buster Moon once again showcases his creativity and enthusiasm for putting on the best show possible. With a team of singers, dancers, and comedians, he dreams up an elaborate spectacle that will be the talk of the town. This time around, he has set his sights on one of Michael Jackson's most iconic songs: "Thriller." The short begins with Buster brainstorming ideas for the next big production at his theater. He envisions an unforgettable night, complete with electrifying performances, dramatic scenes, and perhaps even a few surprises. As he thinks out loud, his associates, including Johnny and Meena, chime in with their suggestions and ideas. But none of them quite capture the full extent of Buster's vision until Rosita walks in with a possible solution. Inspired by the night sky and the full moon, Rosita suggests the event be themed around the song "Thriller." Buster is immediately captivated by the idea, envisioning the possibilities of zombies, dance battles, and, of course, the unmistakable beat of Michael Jackson's hit song. As plans begin to take shape, Buster is approached by an external choreographer tasked with augmenting Buster's grandiose vision into something better. This brings in a few memorable performances including a skilled performer named 'Boney' a fun hip singing zombie, (some funny side pieces as seen) – the creative elements start to unfold, falling into place around this core concept. With a show budget to fit his ambitious and breathtaking spectacle ("Thriller") Buster hires top dancers, talented choreographers, special effects and a design team consisting of multi-talented and highly skilled members. As construction commences, he realizes the scope of the venture exceeds his resources. Buster frantically reaches out for help when word spreads that the iconic Universal Studios' Creature from the Black Lagoon could make an incredibly sensational dramatic appearance for the show. They arrive at the location and witness how quickly the plans have expanded and improved dramatically with each newly added act – the song seems to transcend normal definitions. With only hours before the big night, Buster confronts a mounting schedule of pre-rehearsals for the large cast: both singing and dancing and intricate choreography plans (the latter are given an upper layer), together, they make sure that every sequence, music track and visual/ musical combination is 100% perfectly combined. Performing hours of hard labour puts on more pressure at precisely what point it's been practiced perfectly in a setting where timing and full synchronization on cue must all mesh to occur so seamlessly. But, with any grand endeavor comes unexpected obstacles. When the grand event night arrives, a technical issue arises with the audio system preventing any clear acoustic sound, thus marring hopes of delivering anything nearing to the grand 'make' everyone envisioned. Buster resorts to old-fashioned practical solutions; he gets his actors to a perfect tempo 'sing live for people gathered' while directing them to dance out – encouraging people to create their own collective physical performance in the musical arrangement. This 'unplanned' performance develops into a mesmerizing display that quickly captivates the crowd. Combining some fabulous moments, unearths that each time something has turned spectacular. Buster Moon once again succeeds in doing so. After facing an endless series of issues, technical mishaps, a plethora of back-and-forth revisions, an aggressive creative vision which changed many times – Buster would eventually put on a show that proved more wondrous, more magical and much more full to awe than anyone had ever anticipated.
