Stargate

Plot

Stargate, released in 1994, is a science fiction film directed by Roland Emmerich and written by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich. The movie takes place during a military operation in Egypt, where a team of archaeologists and the U.S. Air Force discover an ancient stone structure known as the Stargate. This mysterious gateway is a remnant of an advanced alien civilization known as the Ancients, who possessed technology capable of interstellar travel. As the characters delve deeper into the Stargate, they activate it, and a brilliant light envelops the device. The team is surprised when a group of four individuals emerges from the Stargate. These individuals, who claim to be peaceful and wish to establish contact, are later revealed to be aliens. They introduce themselves as Ra's people, who hail from a planet they refer to as Abydos. The aliens, led by Ra's priest, Sha're, explain that Ra was a benevolent god worshipped by the people of Abydos. They reveal that their planet was home to a large population, who eventually died out due to environmental disasters and a lack of resources. The aliens inform the team that their world is dying, and they have taken a few of their people to a more hospitable location, Earth. Ra's people believe that Abydos will survive as long as Earth does, and they seek to communicate with the rest of their people who they believe may be still on Earth. In return for the information provided by Ra's people, the military team offers to help the aliens establish contact with any other survivors who may be present on Earth. Colonel Jonathan West (James Spader), a skeptical and experienced military officer, is appointed leader of the team. West's team is augmented by an expert linguist named Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Biehn) who has previously expressed interest in hieroglyphics. The team is then transported to Abydos via the Stargate, where they engage in skirmishes with a group of hostile locals who believe the Stargate can assist them in destroying their perceived enemies. Upon their return to Earth, the Stargate ceremony leads to chaos when they are unexpectedly approached by Soviet soldiers who have managed to obtain details about the gate. Learning that the event was supposed to stay secret, an outlandish capture by the Russians has the team in the cross hairs when American forces intervene. Pursued by Soviet patrols, they lose one of their team members. Initially, a tense adventure set on American and Egyptian terrain develops as the pursuing Soviet convoy keeps on the team's tail. Then however, an even more critical operation sets in: the gate is nearly left uncontrollable with Washington D.C. being drawn into the scene by its potential and immense danger of potential planetary world collision damage brought about by two incoming galaxies getting closer. The clock then begins ticking for Daniel, as they anxiously go desperately searching for an end to the free falling chaos. A distress call from Colonel West informs Daniel about the catastrophic event about to befall the world. With the Stargate growing larger and more potent, Daniel discovers that it might be possible to end this menace, as he rushes to create an array of symbols across Earth to encode within Abydos's time space through the gates connections: the information given will essentially reverse-generate to generate enough strength, not to reverse the celestial body attraction from its present path toward Earth, but instead create it off planet. While this brilliant move has the team working through desperation in having lost the other time out going group of Earth survivors temporarily separated, many more will become hopeful on the edge of death that with the now earth-connected planet-very similar structures-Abydos's great help through stargate technology they could repair their own to re-establish an urgent task toward world wide survival...
