Stigmata

Stigmata

Plot

Frankie Paige, a young woman with no strong ties to the Catholic faith, lives a mundane life in New York City surrounded by a handful of acquaintances. She has a boyfriend, but their relationship is seemingly unfulfilling. However, one fateful day, Frankie's life is irrevocably altered. As she performs her daily routine, strange and inexplicable occurrences begin taking place around her, and she starts experiencing violent visions. The visions manifest as physical wounds, eerily mirroring the lacerations that Jesus Christ endured during his crucifixion. Frankie is perplexed and terrified by these unsettling events. Despite her fear, she finds herself drawn into a whirlpool of supernatural phenomena that are beyond her understanding. The Vatican catches wind of Frankie's situation, and they take swift action. A high-ranking cardinal, aware of the significance of Frankie's experiences, orders the Rev. Andrew Kiernan, a Jesuit priest, to travel to the United States and investigate Frankie's claims. Father Kiernan, an individual accustomed to the mysteries of the faith, is both intrigued and concerned by Frankie's story. Upon arriving in New York, he sets out to speak with Frankie, in hopes of understanding the nature of her experiences. Upon meeting Frankie, Father Kiernan discovers that she is an honest and forthright individual who genuinely struggles to comprehend the nature of her visions. Her lack of faith and general disconnection from the Catholic Church makes her an unlikely vessel for the stigmata, a phenomenon where wounds of Christ appear on an individual's body. This raises various questions, both theological and supernatural. As Father Kiernan delves deeper into the mystery surrounding Frankie, he starts uncovering sinister forces working in the shadows. Evidence suggests that an ancient evil has begun to inhabit Frankie's body, using her as a conduit to wreak havoc on the world. This malevolent entity seems to feed on Frankie's spiritual weakness and emotional vulnerability, causing her to suffer more severely with each passing day. Father Kiernan realises that Frankie is no longer in control of her own body. He is faced with an impossible situation: either allow her to be taken by the entity or risk everything to rescue her from its grasp. Father Kiernan is aware that the Church often turns a blind eye to these kinds of supernatural occurrences due to concerns over public perception and its potential impact on the faith. He is, however, convinced that he must stand by Frankie and fight to restore her soul to its rightful owner. As Father Kiernan tries to rescue Frankie, we see glimpses of an eerie backstory surrounding an excommunicated priest, Father O'Donnell, who was an ally to Father Kiernan in the past. This character's fate becomes tied to Frankie's situation, and Father Kiernan must confront the ghosts of his past in order to help Frankie. Stigmata unravels at an intense pace, weaving together elements of the paranormal, the supernatural, and the mystical. Father Kiernan's pursuit of the truth becomes a desperate attempt to preserve Frankie's sanity and save her from those determined to utilize her for their own sinister purposes. His conviction is unshaken as he seeks to prove that even the most unlikely souls can be worthy of salvation. The line between truth and deceit blurs as Frankie and Father Kiernan become increasingly entangled in an otherworldly drama that threatens to consume everything in its path. With each passing moment, it's clear that Frankie and Father Kiernan will be forced to confront a malevolent presence that knows no bounds. Their lives, ultimately, are a testament to faith's enduring power in the face of unrelenting evil.
