Plot
Strong, a 2022 science fiction drama film, revolves around Candace D'erzco, a resourceful 16-year-old girl who must transport her ailing mother, Noni, to a distant planet with the goal of seeking better treatment and a chance at survival. The movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where the Earth is uninhabitable, ravaged by climate change, pollution, and natural disasters. Humanity's last hope lies in colonizing other planets, particularly Kepler-22b, a habitable exoplanet that offers safer living conditions and improved healthcare. The United Earth Government (UEG) established the Kepler Colonies, which cater to those seeking refuge from the planet's devastation. After Noni's terminal illness is diagnosed, Candace is determined to get her mother to Kepler-22b, where scientists have developed advanced medical treatments that may offer a second chance at life. To navigate the treacherous terrain and accomplish their mission, Candace relies on an Artificial Intelligence (AI) dog named A.R.K., an android companion designed to assist her on the perilous journey. Throughout their journey, Candace and A.R.K. face numerous challenges such as harsh environments, hostile creatures, and other desperate survivors who will stop at nothing to reach Kepler-22b. These encounters test Candace's resourcefulness and courage as she must rely on her wit and determination to keep her mother safe. As they travel through the unforgiving landscape, Candace begins to reveal more about her motivations for transporting her mother to Kepler-22b. Her love for Noni and her own sense of responsibility drive her to push through every obstacle in their path. Candace's bond with A.R.K. also deepens as they rely on each other to overcome the many challenges they face, showcasing the powerful connection between a human and their technological companion. Despite the odds against them, Candace's unwavering resolve ultimately leads them to the edge of the unknown. Along the way, the two discover the depths of Candace's own strength, courage, and compassion as she sacrifices her own needs for the well-being of her mother. Strong explores themes of resilience, love, and the human spirit's capacity for hope and perseverance in the face of adversity. With every step, Candace pushes forward with unwavering optimism, buoyed by her connection to both Noni and A.R.K. The journey serves as a testament to the strength of female relationships and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child.
