Summer of 84

Plot
In the idyllic town of Oakdale, Maine, a group of adolescent friends is looking forward to the excitement and freedom of their summer break. For Davey Armstrong (Gilbert), a 15-year-old who has recently moved to Oakdale with his mother, the summer offers a clean slate and a chance to reinvent himself among his new peers. Among these peers is Curtis, the charming and outgoing leader of the group, who introduces Davey to his friends, Wayne, a socially awkward but fiercely loyal friend, and Ernie, the group's resident cynic. As they explore the town and get to know each other, the friends decide to investigate the rumors surrounding police officer Wayne Mackey, who lives in the house next to them. The speculation about Mackey's dark reputation has long been circulating in the neighborhood, with some whispering about a possible connection to the mysterious disappearance of two teenage girls from Oakdale several years ago. Armed with nothing but their curiosity and a few stolen badges from Mackey's house, the group sets out to dig up the truth behind the officer's enigmatic past. As they begin to snoop around, they start to notice strange occurrences, from Mackey's erratic mood swings to the seemingly suspicious disappearances of various residents in Oakdale. Davey, in particular, becomes increasingly invested in the mystery, feeling a personal connection to the missing girls and a sense of responsibility to uncover the truth. With Curtis, Wayne, and Ernie on board, the group embarks on a mission to gather evidence and expose Mackey's supposed wrongdoings. Their snooping around takes them to various locations in Oakdale, including the beach where Mackey is often seen with a female companion – an enigmatic woman known for her seductive charm. The friends also discover a suspicious connection between Mackey and a local hardware store, which seems to be a front for a more sinister operation. As the group gets closer to the truth, they realize that Mackey's crimes are far more sinister than they initially suspected. The seemingly ordinary suburban façade of Oakdale conceals a dark underbelly of corruption and deviance. In a thrilling and suspenseful climax, the friends finally unravel the mystery behind Mackey's true nature and the source of his crimes. Without revealing too much of the plot, it's safe to say that the truth is far more shocking and disturbing than the friends ever could have imagined. The film builds up to a dramatic and heart-pounding conclusion, leaving the viewer with a lasting sense of unease and a reevaluation of the seemingly innocent world of suburban life. Summer of 84 is a gripping and unsettling film that skillfully blends elements of mystery and suspense, offering a commentary on the darker aspects of human nature. The film's portrayal of the adolescent protagonists and their relationships adds an extra layer of tension and poignancy to the narrative, making the final revelations all the more impactful.
