Super Papa

Plot
In the heartwarming and humorous film 'Super Papa', Tom, a loving father, finds himself caught up in a wild adventure to make his son's dreams come true. Tom's 8th birthday celebrations for his son Gaby are filled with excitement and joy, but it takes an unexpected turn when Tom gives Gaby a special gift, a book containing nothing but blank pages. Initially, Gaby's excitement about his new book is short-lived as he realizes that it is devoid of any content. Feeling embarrassed by his gift, Tom is caught in a bind and does not want to let his son down. In a bid to salvage the situation and maintain his image as a 'cool dad', Tom makes up a remarkable story about the book. According to him, the book is a magical one that can bring any dream or wish to life, all one has to do is write them down. At first, Tom is not entirely convinced by his own story, but as he sees the immense excitement in Gaby's eyes, he decides to roll with it. This marks the beginning of a series of events that will test Tom's creativity, patience, and determination. The more Gaby's dreams get, the more Tom finds himself in an uphill battle to make them come true. The story takes off with a series of seemingly simple but often unrealistic requests from Gaby. Tom tries to be resourceful and creative in fulfilling these requests, going to great lengths to make his son happy. As the requests become progressively more absurd, Tom begins to feel overwhelmed and starts to question his own ability to live up to the expectations of a 'super papa'. One of the earliest requests is for a giant water slide, which is installed in the backyard, much to the delight of the neighbors. As the requests get more extravagant, Tom's resourcefulness is put to the test. Gaby wants a real-life dinosaur skeleton, and Tom ends up in a bizarre adventure trying to source one, much to the amusement of those who witness his antics. As the requests snowball, Tom becomes increasingly desperate, trying to keep up with the demands of his son's wildest dreams. Along the way, he stumbles upon an array of quirky characters who become entangled in his quest to make Gaby's dreams come true. From a zany local entrepreneur to a cast of amateur zookeepers, everyone seems to get drawn into Tom's world of 'super papa' antics. Despite his struggles, Tom never loses sight of the love and gratitude that drives his actions. His motivation is not about seeking praise or attention but about keeping his son happy and making him feel like the luckiest boy in the world. Through his journey, Tom discovers a newfound appreciation for the power of imagination and the limitless potential that comes with believing in it. As the story unfolds, Gaby begins to learn a valuable lesson about being responsible and considerate of others' feelings. His wild demands start to become more thoughtful and considerate, reflecting his changing perspective on the impact of his actions on those around him. In the end, Tom's determination and creativity pay off as Gaby's dreams start to materialize in unexpected and often hilarious ways. The film ends on a heartwarming note as Tom and Gaby share a heartfelt moment, basking in the joy and love that comes with the special bond between a parent and child. Through 'Super Papa', the film captures the essence of parenting, love, and imagination, conveying a powerful message about being true to oneself and finding creative ways to make others happy. The film is a feel-good adventure that explores the intricacies of family relationships and the power of a parent's love to shape the world of their child.
Reviews
Rachel
Lee Yu-ri is famous for playing villainous roles, but she's not necessarily unlikable. Lee Dong-gun's character is also quite likable. However, I find the little girl's personality extremely annoying in reality. I'll keep watching for now... [Dropped after 5 episodes]!!!
Zion
In the third episode, it feels like the male lead is just constantly dragging the female lead around, haha. And in the fifth episode, the female lead's facial expressions while drinking are absolutely top-notch!
Ivy
LOL! The female lead is a total wolf in sheep's clothing!
Ellie
Dropped the final 2 episodes. Here comes the cliche terminal illness trope, hoping it won't get too melodramatic... Lee Re is still as adorable and delivers a great performance. Lee Yu-ri as the terminally ill mother is fantastic with subtle gestures and expressions, but there's always a lingering touch of Korean over-the-top acting. Seeing Lee Dong-gun reminds me of the old Korean dramas I used to watch with my mom... Xu Yizhi, keep it up! Seo Jun-young is cute~
Frances
A plot this formulaic feels more suited for the big three networks, a letdown considering it's a tvN script. The female lead's character is also overly affected. Dropped after eight episodes. What happened to Lee Dong-gun after "Lovers in Paris"? Why hasn't he landed any good roles since? On the bright side, Han Groo's cameo is a highlight – girl, please come back and start acting again!
