S.W.A.T.

Plot
In the action-packed world of police thrillers, S.W.A.T. brings together a dynamic team of law enforcement officers to form an elite unit, ready to take on any challenge that comes their way. The movie takes viewers on a thrilling ride, filled with intense action sequences, close calls, and camaraderie among its characters. The story begins with Hondo Harrelson, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who is the commander of an elite unit within the Los Angeles Police Department. Hondo has a reputation for being one of the best in the business, and he's always on the lookout for talented and skilled individuals to join his team. He's particularly drawn to Jim Street, played by Colin Farrell, a quiet and unassuming rookie cop who is eager to prove himself. Despite their differences, Hondo sees something in Jim that reminds him of himself when he was younger, and he wants to mentor him to become a top-notch S.W.A.T. officer. As Hondo and Jim start to assemble a team, they look for members with specific skills and qualities that will make them effective in their high-stakes assignments. Their search leads them to Deke Kay, played by LL Cool J, a tough and seasoned cop who has a reputation for being fearless. Deke brings a much-needed injection of street smarts and brawn to the team, and his no-nonsense attitude quickly earns him Hondo's respect. Their final recruit is Chris Sanchez, played by Michelle Rodriguez, a single mother who is also a skilled and determined cop. Despite facing personal challenges at home, Chris is fiercely dedicated to her job and proves herself to be an invaluable asset to the team. The team's first major assignment is to escort crime boss Alex Montel, played by Jeremy Piven, to prison. The high-profile assignment seems straightforward enough, but Hondo's instincts tell him that this might be more complicated than it initially appears. As they get closer to the prison, a large entourage and heavy security wait to ensure they can deliver Montel safely. However, unbeknownst to the S.W.A.T. team, Montel has other plans. He offers a lucrative reward to anyone who can break him free from prison, and before long, ex-convicts, ruthless gang members, and mercenary types start to mobilize, intent on collecting the massive bounty. As they get into position, Hondo and his team are suddenly ambushed, and everything that could go wrong does. They find themselves pinned down behind a thin line of police barricades, with high-powered gunfire erupting all around them. With lives at stake and their professionalism hanging in the balance, Hondo and his team must come together to improvise and execute an effective counterattack to fend off the attackers and escort Montel to the relative safety of the prison. Praise and recognition come their way when Hondo and Street accomplish their previous objective with success, the team is sent on another mission - capture a white collar bank robber who carried out in several banks. The criminal mastermind is no ordinary thief, cunning, educated and possessed of clever escape tactics, street tough and never held captive once before making his very daring escape from the S.W.A.T. team by use of one of these getaway techniques.

Absolutely love this show! The attention to detail is phenomenal. The car chases and action sequences are top-notch - no surprise coming from director Lin. While the formula is pretty familiar, similar to other recent shows with a fast-paced plot but lacking a strong central storyline, I especially love the character of Chris!

Coming from a background like that, it's easy to understand the protagonist's drive. But his all-encompassing empathy feels a bit unrealistic.

It's a bit much asking SWAT, who are usually just kicking down doors, to suddenly handle detective work, resolve racial tensions and police-community relations, and sort out street gang issues. Makes you wonder what LAPD and the FBI are even doing. Forcing this kind of expanded role and elevated setup just feels off – maybe it would work better with a different department. Probably won't keep watching; even Shemar Moore's charm can't save this show.

Morgan goes from being a door-kicking badass to a cheesy, motivational-speech-giving door-kicker...
