The General

In the midst of the American Civil War, the Southern Railroad is a vital connection between Atlanta and Chattanooga, keeping the Confederacy well supplied and maintaining the war effort. Within this crucial network lies the 'The General,' a fast and reliable locomotive piloted by engineer Johnnie Gray, a civilian employee who has never joined the Confederate army due to his conscientious objection. Gray's dedication to preserving the rail line and transporting people has earned him the respect of those around him. The story begins as a Union raiding party, disguised as a Southern train crew, infiltrate the rail line with the intent of disrupting the Confederacy's supply chain. Led by Captain Wilson, the group consists of several skilled operatives, including Ben and Big Bill, who have successfully evaded detection and blended in seamlessly with their Southern counterparts. On this fateful day, the raiding party boards the General, accompanied by a boxcar in tow, which contains Annabelle, Johnnie's lady love. Annabelle has been traveling to visit her family and, unaware of the true intentions of the 'rebel' crew, is enjoying the luxurious accommodations offered by the boxcar. Johnnie, on his way back to the General after delivering the last of the night's mail, discovers that the train has been hijacked.
