Meanwhile, the film's story also jumps to Chicago, where two high school students, Jake (Jason Blecki) and his girlfriend, Lacey (Erica Leerhsen), are trying to make a prank video. However, things take a dark turn when Jake decides to sneak into an abandoned apartment building to get a better shot. Unbeknownst to them, this building was once home to a family that experienced a similar tragedy to the one Karen Davis faced. As the students explore the abandoned building, they are eventually met with the wrath of the vengeful spirit. The film's narrative is also interwoven with the story of a nurse, Kayako's sister, who was also killed in the house, and how she seeks revenge on the person who wronged her, Karen.
