The Last Boy Scout
Plot
The Last Boy Scout is a 1991 American action thriller film directed by Bruce Malmuth and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Damon Wayans. The movie follows Joe Hallenback (Schwarzenegger), a tough-as-nails detective who works for a corrupt private security firm. When the girl that Hallenback is protecting, Joyce (Sharon Stone), gets brutally murdered, her boyfriend, Jimmy Dix (Wayans), a former football player turned private investigator, decides to take matters into his own hands and investigate the case. As he delves deeper into the mystery, he discovers that Joyce was involved with some shady characters, including a group of corrupt businessmen and a sleazy politician. As Hallenback and Dix work together to uncover the truth behind Joyce's murder, they discover that it is just one part of a larger conspiracy involving corruption, greed, and betrayal. They also learn that they are not alone in their investigation, as there are others who will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden. Throughout the movie, Hallenback and Dix must use their wits and their fists to take down the bad guys and bring justice to Joyce's memory. Along the way, they develop a bond of trust and respect for each other, despite their vastly different backgrounds and personalities. The Last Boy Scout is an action-packed thrill ride that combines humor, drama, and suspense in equal measure. With its over-the-top action sequences, memorable characters, and intricate plot, it's no wonder this movie has become a cult classic among fans of 80s and 90s action cinema.

Rewatched.
Ruby
Typical 90s action fare.

As a 90s action flick, it was pretty good. Watching it now, it feels a bit dated.
Anna
That final dance had a darkly comedic flavor to it.

6.0/10. Rewatched on 2025.05.07. CEE (Central and Eastern European) Blu-ray edition. The picture quality is subpar. Runtime: 01:45:25... I thought I hadn't seen it before, but as soon as the opening scene with the football game in the rain started, I remembered I had. However, I had completely forgotten the rest of the plot... Just finished rewatching "The Nice Guys," and the director of that film was a screenwriter for this one, so there's a familiar vibe. The directing in this movie is quite mediocre, which explains why I forgot the plot, except for the beginning... I even thought Halle Berry was the female lead, but she gets killed off almost immediately... This movie is kind of a "meh" film, a little bit of action, a little bit of plot, a little bit of comedy,...
