The Magnetic Telescope

Plot
The Magnetic Telescope is a 1995 American supervillain film directed by Alan Simmonds and written by Robert F. Smith. The movie takes place in the DC Extended Universe and primarily revolves around a mad scientist who unleashes a series of devastating events that can only be halted by the intervention of the Man of Steel himself - Superman. Dr. Alan Reed (Richard Burgi) is an amateur and brilliant astrophysicist, known for his cutting-edge telescopes that aid astronomers in their studies of celestial phenomena. His life's work, a cutting-edge device he created called the Magnetic Telescope, aims to collect data from distant galaxies using powerful magnets attached to a space satellite. Unbeknownst to the rest of the scientific community, his ultimate intention is not data collection, but harnessing the raw energy of space to control the global stock and commodity market for personal gain. As Reed's plan for global domination comes into view, law enforcement agencies become cautious, suspecting him of potential wrongdoing. They decide to pay him an unexpected visit, disrupting his crucial experiment at the last minute, where they are met with extreme hostility and an unfortunate outcome. The magnetic forces emanating from Reed's telescope collide with a meteor shower hurtling towards Earth, resulting in its trajectory being altered drastically. This leads to devastating consequences - meteor fragments pierce through the Earth's atmosphere at extremely high velocities, threatening the very existence of cities and life beneath them. Upon receiving this news, Superman receives telepathic signals of impending doom from Kryptonian beings. This allows him to pinpoint the source of danger and the reason behind the impending apocalypse. With his superhuman strength and X-ray vision, Superman sets off to find the person responsible for the chaos that the Magnetic Telescope has caused. In Superman's world, reckless behavior by individuals poses an enormous threat to the world's inhabitants. When Superman finally locates Dr. Reed, it becomes apparent that he is more interested in using his creation for financial gain than in the scientific discoveries that might follow. However, despite Superman's arrival, the scientist manages to harness a significant amount of energy which causes a massive storm to ensue in the vicinity. However, Superman manages to overcome this challenge through sheer force of will. Meanwhile, Superman struggles to pinpoint the source of the Magnetic Telescope's energy and how it is able to interact with and change the course of objects in space. The Man of Steel eventually discovers that it's not just a machine but an extension of the universe's energy that, when harnessed, holds immense power. As a result, he knows he'll have to come up with innovative strategies to put a stop to Reed's nefarious plan. As the city begins to succumb to the relentless meteor bombardment, Superman knows action is needed quickly. Focusing on his powers, Superman is able to shield himself from a falling meteor using his heat vision and speed. However, despite his valiant efforts, Superman realizes the enormity of the danger still at hand. It's now evident that the Magnetic Telescope poses a far more serious threat than Superman initially thought. With time ticking away, Superman knows he has to take decisive action. He confronts Reed at the location of the Magnetic Telescope, where a fierce battle ensues between the two as they engage in super strength-fueled hand-to-hand combat. Superman, with his exceptional agility, proves to be a match for Reed, as the two trade blows and test each other's strength. Superman manages to overpower the mad scientist and disable the Magnetic Telescope by shattering its crystal core. This ultimately halts the meteor shower and saves countless lives. Dr. Alan Reed, realizing the gravity of his actions, is taken into custody by the authorities and put under the watchful eyes of a psychiatric facility. In the wake of this catastrophic event, Superman's legend grows, and he's hailed by the world for saving humanity yet again. As he reflects on his recent encounter, the Man of Steel comes to understand that with great power comes the responsibility to protect the world and stop the destructive ambitions of those who would seek to harm it.
