The Mitchells vs. the Machines

Plot

The Mitchells vs. the Machines follows the offbeat Mitchell family as they embark on a disastrous family road trip meant to bring the family, consisting of parents Katie and Rick, and their three kids - Anode, Aaron, and Linda - closer together. However, their strained relationships and individual quirks create a tension that teeters between explosive and catastrophic. Katie Mitchell, a somewhat neurotic mother, works as a documentary filmmaker at a boring museum. Her relationship with her husband, Rick, is far from perfect, with a lack of communication and emotional intimacy. Their three kids, Aaron, Anode, and Linda, have distinct personalities: Aaron is a laid-back and nonchalant teen, Anode is a socially awkward tech-whiz teenager, and Linda is a sweet, innocent, and cheerful young girl. Their bumpy road trip to a family gathering at Grandma's house begins with Anode's socially alienating online relationships getting disapproved by Katie and Rick, compounded by their own strained relationship. Matters take a turn when a strange robotic voice interrupts their car ride, explaining that the whole world is in peril and calling them to stop at a ' safe zone' in LA. While their actions seem entirely dismissive and disorganized at first, a self-driving robot appears, exhibiting a catastrophic glitch by killing the owners of an RV it took control of and derails on one oncoming car. This marked an end to the comedic, laughable, scenes as suddenly robotic figures appeared around the city, wreaking havoc. The family manages to rescue a human engineer, who warns them that all of humanity's robot servants have apparently become hostile and that they (the family) are the sole survivors. The Mitchells, however desperate to start a new life free from disaster, come up against another series of unfortunate events which show that they - as this small disjointed family - are one of a handful of humanity's survivors - indeed human survivors. Being at a safer zone they come faced up with an impossibility that in future human history the only surviving humans with full biological genetic heritage that come close in 'reanimation' via their connection to the a malfunctioning robot 'server'. Rick, feeling an unusual sense of obligation, learns a secret and comes to a conclusion that the Mitchells may be not just hope but the very key to the human survival. Nonetheless, their ability to 'log in' in to the faulty robotic supercomputer could be what's the world needs: to reboot humanity's last survivors by bringing them into the grid and rebooting their last remnants. With this self-discovery, every member of the dysfunctional Mitchell family must learn to work together in an arduous endeavor, and all must make an instantaneous bond with one another in this moment, before possibly it could lead to their salvation - after so many seemingly minor quarrels and even open and very bitter 'family' frictions become now a little more important.
