The Rental

Plot
Charlie and Liz, a young married couple, are desperate for a break from their mundane lives. Feeling suffocated by their daily routine, they decide to treat themselves to a luxurious rental house overlooking the ocean, complete with breathtaking views and an expansive deck. The property is owned by a charismatic and affable host, David (played by Chris O'Dowd), who seems to genuinely want to ensure they have an unforgettable experience. Upon arrival, the couple is warmly greeted by their two friends, Masha and Josh, who also join them for the getaway. Initially, everything appears perfect. The house is a paradise on earth, with an abundance of amenities and an unobstructed view of the picturesque beach outside. The group spends their days lounging by the pool, swimming in the ocean, and enjoying each other's company. As the weekend progresses, however, subtle hints begin to suggest that something is amiss. Charlie, a seasoned software engineer, is the first to notice anomalies in the house's Wi-Fi network. The speeds are erratic and the signal often drops, raising suspicions that their host might be manipulating the internet connection to monitor their online activities. At first, they dismiss these concerns as mere paranoia, attributing them to the quirks of a rental property. It is not long, however, before more disturbing signs start to surface. The group discovers a series of strange cameras and listening devices hidden discreetly within the house, feeding an uneasy sense of unease amidst their relaxation. Tensions begin to rise as the group tries to reconcile the disparity between David's seemingly genuine nature and the potential sinister intentions behind the house's hidden features. As they attempt to brush off their concerns, a series of unsettling events takes place. Charlie starts to feel an inexplicable sense of discomfort, and an atmosphere of suspicion begins to grip the group. Liz becomes increasingly paranoid, imagining sinister intentions behind the rental property and questioning David's motives for hosting the weekend getaway. While Charlie and the rest of the group are caught up in their suspicions of David, the couple starts to suspect Josh and Masha of more sinister motivations of their own. Masha appears overly interested in the house's interior design and appears to take advantage of Charlie's computer security knowledge, raising more questions about her intentions. Charlie struggles to separate reality from paranoia, making it increasingly challenging to decide who to trust in the situation. Liz's concerns culminate in an explosive confrontation with David, during which she confronts him about the hidden cameras. David denies the allegations and attempts to downplay the significance of the devices, further confusing the group. As the confrontation escalates, the atmosphere becomes electric with tension, as all parties realize that the weekend getaway has turned into something far more ominous and sinister than initially anticipated.
