The Sound

Plot

The Sound is an adrenaline-fueled survival thriller film, directed by Johannes Roberts and produced by Jeremy Watkin, Ben Lloyd, and James Harris. The movie revolves around a group of six experienced climbers, led by a charismatic and confident expedition leader, Joe (Jamie Bell). The team, consisting of Joe, his girlfriend Giselle (Abigail Breslin), Gumbel (Rupert Graves), Andy (Douglas Hodge), Lauren (Astrid McGroarty), Harry (Matthew Modine), and Senta's friend in Sweden's Orkenas, initially sets out to conquer the infamous Kermodei Island, which encompasses an off-limits and eerie peak known as The Scream. This claustrophobic and grueling environment hosts an isolated landscape of majestic canyons and rugged coastlines, complete with crevices, ice caves, and vast caverns beneath them. Joe's enthusiasm for climbing and genuine wonder of ascending to the Kermodei summit are tempered by Giselle's skeptical views, highlighting her deep concern and personal doubt regarding getting into what essentially seems like an uncertain endeavor. The expedition team starts to ascend the perilous ice wall. However, soon the unwary group discovers the harsh reality that surrounds them - they're exposed to the mighty ocean waters outside their very own vertical environment of ice and the unforgiving elements of the severe storms that sometimes prevail in that breathtaking landscape. Conditions inside ice begin changing rapidly and unpredictably making it more treacherous. The Kermodei Island is swayed to the moods of the ocean - a little bit more ice creaks, caves widen or disappear instantly into massive crevasses. Senta falls into the crevasse but fortunately, they are able to recover. Giselle develops fear and cannot seem to overcome her predicament. In contrast, Joe presses on, pushing through fear and confronting personal demons. As the group faces internal conflicts, tensions escalate among team members. While navigating icy terrain, climbing narrow crevices, and escaping possible massive collapses, they experience some critical loss. Andy slips off the wall when they fail to reach the safety system - as an agonizing cry reverberates down the canyon their fragile rope system snaps. Not knowing what has happened, two comrades are forced to re-climb over perilous rocks to rescue their missing expedition friend. They are no more. Understandably, everyone begins questioning their decision to join this lethal climb. However, Senta continues her unwavering faith in her captain's leadership and their unwavering shared resolve to reach the peak. Now just three, Joe, Giselle and Senta face the challenge as relentless ocean storms batter relentlessly against the ice mass and winds build. Then a massive break happens between them and Senta. The ferocious storm tosses Giselle with considerable force into an icy chasm. Joe, in pursuit of her, performs the most daring, harrowing climb of his career - this desperate move results in a dismounting from the mountain wall, losing rope attachments. And then, Joe gets separated from Giselle, but just manages to stumble in cold shock as the winds hit a new force. They do not have an hour but only minutes left to tread the way to safety - stranded, broken - ultimately caught out by untamed elements and an unpredictable beast that is toying with them. Joe, stranded on a towering ice climber with Giselle standing in the water-ruined cave below who managed to fend off against being engulfed in the violent stormy seas gives him hope - as the desperation of survival is fueling, together the pair discovers that when they collaborate and inspire one another, victory is ensured. Understanding new chances bring courage - all throughout Joe's true devotion to saving his soul and partner gets recognized in a deeply personal note. Some great yet moving artistic frames capture Joe getting separated with Giselle but then he recovers, then a truly breathtaking ending as they do their best and get a picture-perfect ascension over the islands icy canyons, emerging magnificently, stronger than ever and all at once on the Kermodei summit.
