The Transformers: The Movie

In the year 2005, humanity had made contact with the alien robots known as the Transformers, a sentient group of machines from the planet Cybertron who possessed the ability to transform from their mechanical forms into vehicles, animals, and other objects. The Transformers were divided into two factions: the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, and the Decepticons, led by Megatron. For centuries, the Decepticons sought to conquer all of Cybertron and eliminate their Autobot counterparts. The movie opens with the Autobots and the Decepticons at war, causing massive destruction across the planet. However, unbeknownst to the Autobots, Galvatron, a former Decepticon turned into a more powerful being when he managed to merge with the body of Cybertron's original ruler, Unicron, is born. The story picks up with the Autobots defending their home planet of Cybertron from an all-out attack by the Decepticons. The Autobots are led by Optimus Prime and the Dinobots - Grimlock, Slag, Slunk, and Snarl - and the Aerialbots - Silverbolt, Skydive, Swoop, and Firecons - as well as Wheelie, the Autobot's smallest member. The battle results in massive casualties for both sides, but the Autobots manage to gain the upper hand. As the Autobots and Decepticons continue their battles, Unicron arrives on the scene. Unicron is a colossal planet-consuming robot created to destroy Cybertron. However, the Autobots discover that Unicron possesses something known as the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, which is the source of life for the Autobots and the key to their strength. The Matrix of Leadership is also the key to the Autobots' leadership powers. When Optimus Prime was chosen to be the leader of the Autobots by the Prime who had gone missing. Optimus Prime received the Matrix from his predecessor in a great ceremony known as the Primal Prime ceremony. The ceremony marks the Autobot leader with the Autobot Matrix, passing the power to a new leader in times of need. However, it can only be passed on once, and in his case from the Prime that went missing, it was to Optimus Prime himself. Unicron, sensing the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, sets his sights on the Autobots and begins to chase them. Optimus Prime and the Autobots realize that they will face an impossible battle against Unicron. The Autobot leader comes to the realization that the only way to defeat Unicron is to sacrifice himself. Meanwhile, Spike Witwicky, the human friend and the son of the human scientist who discovered the Transformers on Earth several years prior, is still living on Earth. Spike is still trying to cope with the loss of his friend Sparkplug, who died in a previous battle with the Decepticons. His father is still experimenting with the Autobots, creating new robots that would help humanity protect itself. As the Autobots are battling against Unicron, Spike and his friends are caught between the Autobots and the Decepticons. Spike, Wheelie, and their friends are forced to flee and become Unicron's prisoners. In the end, Unicron attacks Cybertron, devouring everything in his path. The Autobots, led by the Prime himself, prepare to make the final stand. During their battle against Unicron, the Autobots discover that Unicron can actually be defeated by destroying one of his eyes, which is connected to his energy core. The task is given to Hot Rod, a young and impulsive Autobot, who successfully manages to destroy the eye and defeat Unicron. However, Hot Rod's success is paid in full cost; as he successfully destroyed the eye of Unicron, the energy from destroying the eye, causes the Matrix which was held inside Prime's body, activates itself and gives him his last burst of strength. He then passes this on to the new leader of Autobots, a new Optimus Prime. He dies instantly but not before passing the power on to the new Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime dies saving his team and passing the Matrix to Hot Rod, while the Decepticons are defeated and forced to flee. As the Autobots mourn the loss of their leader, the movie ends with the hope for a brighter future for both the Autobots and humans.
