The Darkest Minds

In a world ravaged by a deadly disease that wiped out nearly all of America's children, only 2% of the young population survived. These children, now referred to as "Orange Camp" residents, possessed unique supernatural abilities that set them apart from the rest of society. However, instead of being celebrated or studied to better understand and help them, these super-powered children were imprisoned in internment camps with little to no access to their powers or a chance to live a normal life. Ruby Daly, a 16-year-old Orange, is one of the thousands of children confined to this desolate life. Living in the Orange Camp, she displays extraordinary powers - the ability to manipulate the minds of others. She, along with many other children like her, faces the daily horrors of being experimented on, beaten, and belittled by the tyrannical Director David, who oversees these camps. Director David has a seemingly sinister plan for these children, though its true intentions remain unclear. One day, Ruby discovers that Director David intends to send her and a group of other talented Oranges, with powers that make them highly sought after, to a location known as 'Hicksville', a supposed 'training facility'. Feeling anxious and desperate to escape, Ruby orchestrates a daring escape with a few trusted friends. They successfully flee the camp, only to find that the outside world is far more treacherous than they could have imagined. During their perilous journey on the run, Ruby and her fellow escapees - Chubs, a genius with exceptional memory and a talent for calculating statistics; Liam, an enigmatic young man with a troubled past and unexplained powers of telekinesis; and Zu, an unpredictable Orange who has the power of pyrokinesis - soon learn that they must navigate the complexities of adulthood, survival, and the true intentions of Director David. On their path to freedom, the group discovers Clancy, a wise and experienced Orange who has been on the run since he was a teenager. He teaches them the importance of trust and the need to rely on each other. Together, they set out to join the 'Cinder Foundation', a mysterious group established to offer support to runaway Oranges and expose the government's sinister secrets. Their journey is fraught with danger as they encounter an array of foes, including hostile townspeople, sinister agents in Director David's employ, and a ruthless 'Black Guard' militia assigned to hunt down and 'contain' any Orange who dares to defy the government. In the end, Ruby's incredible powers and newfound friendship prove to be invaluable as they near their destination - the supposed 'Cinder Foundation'. But the truth they uncover raises questions about the true intentions of this organization and the purpose of Director David's sinister agenda.
