The Meg

Plot
The movie "The Meg" is a 2018 science fiction horror film that tells the story of Jonas Taylor, a deep-sea rescuer and submersible pilot who is brought back for a mission to rescue a crew trapped in the Mariana Trench. However, when a decades-old nightmare threatens to resurface for Taylor, the journey takes an unexpected and deadly turn. The story begins in 2005 when Taylor, then a young submersible pilot, attempted to rescue a crew of researchers in the same submersible. But a massive underwater earthquake strikes, and the submersible is crushed by an enormous shark. Taylor barely escapes with his life, haunted by the traumatic event and branded a coward by his peers. Fast forward to the present, Taylor has dedicated his life to overcoming his phobia of deep-sea diving. He's started a family and left his past behind to pursue a new career as a professional diver, training and teaching deep-sea rescuers. Taylor is approached by a large corporation, lead by Jack Morris, to rescue a crew trapped in the Mariana Trench in a Chinese-owned submersible called the Kushiya. Taylor initially refuses but is convinced by the company to join the mission after learning of the crew's danger. They offer him a large sum of money, which Taylor sees as the only way to finally prove himself and earn the respect of his peers and family. After accepting the offer, Taylor receives training to familiarize himself with the new equipment of an advanced submersible vessel designed to withstand extreme pressure. Upon the expedition's departure, Taylor is accompanied by a diverse team of researchers and engineers, including Dr. Heller, Dr. Sheckman, Suyin Zhang, Jaxx Herd, and billionaire Jack Morris. As the submersible vessel drifts near the Kushiya location, the team conducts a sonar sweep to detect any possible survivors, where they discover signs of unusual seismic activity within the near-by trench. After discovering signals, that the Kushiya submersible went missing while it was in research for a highly mysterious and seemingly extinct prehistoric shark species, known in mythology as Me Kong. This creature is believed to be as large as fifteen meters (49 feet). As an argument erupts between Jonas and Dr. Heller over the presence of the massive prehistoric creature, specifically Me Kong, who is known to have a width of as much as 3.2 meters(10.5 feet) along the girth is thought to hold fearsome killing power, Jonas attempts to conduct an initial rescue by piloting the Res Q vessel into the abyss, getting partially entangled in wreckage as his vehicle is torn apart by water pressure. It turns out that Jonas' new vessel, capable of deep ocean dives of up to 3.5 miles in just one dive is exactly what is needed for the rescue mission, however it arrives a little too late, only to discover that the crew is not rescued due to them having been quickly attacked by the shark in every way possible. The only survivor on the wreckage sight is found to be, Tri-State, possibly injured, still clinging on to the last hope. Jonas feels haunted by his past, coupled with survivor's guilt, and takes command of the vessel by heading back to his living nightmare - the abyssal megalodon. While in an underwater dive a school of megatooth sharks possibly the extinct relatives of the largest marine creature of this type in the known ocean are encountered. Before entering the lowest part of the Mariana Trench, Jonas reflects on his experiences with fearsome creatures as deep-sea diver when he finally reunites in a unique chance to confront and defeat the sea creature from below. On final descent into his dreadfully haunted past as deep-sea diver and pilot, Jonas' deep frustration is fueled even more causing an epic fight with the massive, prehistoric 20-metre-long megalodon in the darkest depths of the ocean.
