The Mummy

The Mummy

Plot

The movie "The Mummy" begins with an American adventurer and army rifleman named Rick O'Connell, played by Brendan Fraser, who has a more sedate life than he did in the desert during the Second World War. As part of a team sent out to find a mythical Golden Sarcophagus, Rick becomes embroiled in an expedition that leads him and his colleagues down into the depths of an Egyptian tomb. The team includes Evelyn Carnahan, a brilliant Egyptologist, and her brother Jonathan, who is less reliable and not as trusting. They soon find themselves in possession of the Sarcophagus, which is revealed to be that of the ancient queen, Imhotep. When they break the seal of the sarcophagus accidentally, they unleash Imhotep's spirit upon the world. As Imhotep begins to exert his influence over the world using his magical powers, Evelyn finds herself drawn into the world of ancient Egypt, becoming particularly fascinated with Imhotep himself, or at least with what remains of his soul. Meanwhile, Rick becomes increasingly suspicious of the curse that the medallion has brought. This leads him on an increasingly perilous journey to find a way to conquer Imhotep and the cursed Medjai priestess who had controlled him. The priestess, Anck-Su-Namun, it is revealed, was once betrothed to Imhotep during the time of the Egyptians' original pharaohs, but her unrequited love for Imhotep is punished by the order of Akhenaten (Pharaoh of Egypt). Because the betrayal gets Akhenaten rather angry, he sentences Imhotep to death in a ritual curse that locks Imhotep inside a ceramic vessel that is submerged in the body of the pharaoh's sister. The vessel is not really buried in the pit as you can imagine in the case of an extremely ancient thing placed beneath the ground. Anck-Su-Namun was involved in Imhotep's downfall long ago, perhaps more than we could initially have imagined, by using dark magic that gets onto Imhotep and at one point she manages to pass the information around of her life. However, Imhotep was far from simple, as the spirit of the priestess Anck-Su-Namun brings him new life and a deep-rooted desire for an unrequited love that cannot heal. However, the return of Imhotep ultimately leads to Rick and the others struggling to survive the mayhem that his powers instill upon the world – chaos unfathomable, raising from the dead as though it was an essential past. In the process, as both the humans involved alongside him, and they ultimately bring it to the people, begin to take full action against Rick, including a mummy's death cult that seems to finally understand there might be Imhotep. According to these visions, Evelyn begins to appreciate Rick's genuine motivation; the truth that she got to understand allows Evelyn to forgive a thing of hatred previously, with all this bringing relief over when all the curse finally dies down. But she is torn between Rick, who protects her, on one hand, and Imhotep, with whom she connects strongly, on the other. Eventually, Evelyn meets her end in comparison to Rick as Imhotep shows his appreciation for her who is after him so strongly for his love.
