The Out-Laws

Plot
The Out-Laws is a 2022 American heist comedy film directed by Tyler Spindel. The movie stars Holly Robinson Peete, Pauly Shore, Shawn Hatosy, Cheech Marin, and Dax Shepard, along with Amy Smart, Annie Mumolo, and Adrianne Palicki. In the film, we are introduced to Roger Cooper, a straight-laced bank manager who is on the verge of tying the knot with his fiancée, Becky. Becky’s parents, Barb and Freddie, have arrived in town for the wedding, and Roger initially thinks they might be too much for him to handle. However, things take an unexpected turn when the bank is held up by a group of thieves, known as Ghost Bandits, who are infamous for their ability to pull off daring heists without being caught. Believing that Becky's parents were the ones behind the heist, due to their rough, eccentric, and affectionate personalities, which, in his eyes resembled "infamous outlaws," Roger starts to question their true intentions. Despite their otherwise seemingly wholesome appearances, Roger firmly believes they're involved in the Ghost Bandits ring. The suspects are questioned in the house, causing a significant amount of tension between Roger, and his future in-laws. As Becky and her father wait patiently for Roger to figure out his confused assumption about the wedding attendees connection to the local bank heists. Just when tensions seem to subside, another chaotic incident takes place, throwing more suspicion of potential crookery on Roger's side. Roger tries desperately to rescue his impression that they are innocent. However, as Becker pushes to bring this uncertainty between Roger to the breaking point amidst this confusion over Roger's parents-in-law situation, a former employee at Roger's Bank shows Roger and the local authorities an unrefined act of theft on YouTube performed during another Ghost Bandit heist. There was a video, some five years earlier - about this individual who became heavily burdened by financial struggles, witnessed the group conducting their famous acts in his home's nearby house's backyard while seemingly sharing drink together. During which one man had a striking resemblance to Becky's father. Under much excitement Roger brought the authorities to observe the hidden key in which he found in this man’s backyard shed with no legal proof of it being the case. Nonetheless, believing this discovery will become sufficient, they rush back to bring Freddie - suspect in local authorities. All the same, an intense moment unfolds when Barb gets a distress call from her "old friend" named Dennis who happens to be – coincidentally – the Ghost Bandits’ one of the main leaders who calls her on day just ahead of a massive heist at his current supposed headquarters and threatens to wreck out the chaos of yet another week or month – either time they arrive before it's far too late – before giving address Barb keeps the secret. She, with conviction, calls up Roger for him to see to her release and clear her and her partner's good name. Luckily and just in time, Roger manages to swing a rescue mission with a close friend and former heist - partner. In which he orchestrates a special meeting. Freddie eventually reveals how Ghost Bandits planned to pass an undercover information to the “‘Ghost’ money thieves" - bank just in front to draw full, the cash they spent for a robbery within the first or the first day just before the outlaws themselves execute this job. Furthermore, during meeting at this point, they both expose an old family legend passed, that all family’s males was known names “ghost bandit” in name with 20 long-held mystery secret heists always hidden because they inherited with each knowledge about their incredible bank-heist legends but while they remain as legend, nothing that connects all to 3 present legends including current generations remains as ever for Freddie to not give away how family first get the particular infamous nick name while both just laughing away through the surprise.

If there were a 4.5-star option, I'd give it! Kevin Hart is hilarious, I was laughing non-stop from beginning to end. Adam Devine's Johnson is surprisingly endearing as a seemingly big muscular guy as a gentle, insecure man. As a comedy, it's not only funny but also does a solid job of addressing the relatively rare theme of anti-bullying. The plot is a bit weak, but it's still got enough twists and turns to keep you guessing – you won't figure out the ending right away, which is great!
