Walter Mitty, a timid and unassuming photo manager at LIFE magazine, spends most of his days stuck between mundane tasks and recurring daydreams. These escapades, ranging from fantasy-adventure scenarios to idyllic getaways, often offer Walter a much-needed reprieve from his humdrum life. Using his imaginative and creative abilities to cope with the stress and monotony of his job, Walter's vivid daydreams serve as a conduit to a world where he is the hero, basking in triumph and freedom. However, his seemingly ordinary life is turned upside down when Walter's much-needed photographic equipment for an upcoming LIFE magazine issue goes missing. His boss, Todd, in reaction to this catastrophic situation, assigns Walter the onerous task of finding the misplaced photo negative.
