Trainwreck

Plot
Amy Schumer's 2015 romantic comedyTrainwreck tells the story of Amy, a successful yet self-centered journalist who has a reputation for being promiscuous. She believes in a specific philosophy of love and marriage, having been taught by her mother that relationships are inherently doomed to fail. Amy's views were shaped by her mother's failed marriage and a romantic disaster with her high school partner. As a result of her rigid views, Amy resolves to be a serial dater and engage in unprotected sex. Her approach to relationships is transactional, devoid of emotional intimacy or the possibility of enduring commitment. This can be seen through her relationships with numerous partners, all of whom end abruptly due to her inability to feel any lasting connection. The story takes a turn when Amy meets Aaron Conners, played by Bill Hader. Aaron is a friend of Amy's brother, but Amy sees him solely as a potential partner in a physical and fleeting way. However, as she becomes more involved with Aaron, Amy starts to realize the compatibility they share, both emotionally and intellectually. What strikes a chord in Amy is Aaron's open-mindedness and flexibility, which serves as a clear contrast to her concrete and unyielding stance on love. The film introduces other pivotal characters, most notably Leah, Rachel McAdams' character, who represents Amy's adult closest friend and confidant. Leah, initially employed as a publicist, and Amy have an unbreakable bond based on their trust and acceptance of one another, discussing and offering opinions on each other's relationships. The turning point in Amy's relationship with Aaron occurs when she suffers a significant fall. Her brother Dave, who becomes increasingly involved in Amy's love life, persuades her that a relationship requires effort and real-world involvement. However, it is not until Amy breaks both her shoulder and dislocates it, forcing her to stay at Aaron's apartment, that she genuinely starts to appraise Aaron more seriously. On their road to securing a genuine relationship, Amy engages in a candid conversation with her estranged and troubled mother. Through this, Amy eventually comes to acknowledge the causes of her approachable attitude, a product of a dysfunctional relationship between her parents. Her experiences make Amy understand the intricacies of relationships, helping her begin to weigh the possibilities of long-term love. Ultimately, through confronting her past and overcoming social stigma, Amy is motivated to proceed with her commitment to Aaron. Here, the audience discovers the true beginnings of a loving relationship for Amy and demonstrates to her the beauty of a lasting bond between two people sharing each other's joys and struggles.
