Tristan & Isolde

Set in 5th-century Britain, 'Tristan & Isolde' is an epic historical romance film directed by Kevin Reynolds, who co-wrote the screenplay with Barbara Nickel along with Betsy Steiner. The film is a modern retelling of the ancient Arthurian legend, drawing inspiration from the 12th-century French romance poem 'Tristan and Iseult' by Béroul. The film begins with Tristan (James Franco) as a skilled and chivalrous warrior, the nephew of Uther Pendragon, the King of Britain. Tristan is tasked by Mark with delivering Isolde to Cornwall, but during the journey, the two share a moment of tenderness and a brief romantic encounter. The encounter, however, is short-lived, as they are eventually reunited with Mark and the rest of the retinue. This secret love, however, does not go unnoticed, as their love for each other begins to drive them both to despair.
