Valkyrie

Plot

It's August 1944, and the world is on the brink of chaos. World War II has raged on for nearly six years, claiming millions of lives and causing unimaginable destruction. Amidst the turmoil, a group of German resistance fighters, disillusioned with the Nazi regime and fearful of its ultimate collapse, begin to hatch a plan to overthrow Adolf Hitler, the Fuhrer of Germany. Their daring endeavor, led by a small yet courageous group of high-ranking officers, is fraught with danger, and the consequences of failure are too terrible to contemplate. At the heart of this clandestine operation is Claus von Stauffenberg, a highly decorated and wounded German army officer. As a lieutenant colonel, Stauffenberg has seen the horrors of war firsthand, fighting in Africa alongside the British against the Italian army and later being gravely injured during the North African campaign. His experiences have not only left him physically scarred but also emotionally shattered. Returning to Germany, a country that once was his home, Stauffenberg becomes increasingly disillusioned with the Nazi regime and its ideology. Stauffenberg joins a coalition of fellow officers and high-ranking military officials who share his sentiments, forming the Kreisau Circle – a small, clandestine group of resisters determined to overthrow Hitler. They are a diverse bunch, each with their motivations and incentives for joining the fight against the Nazi regime. Their plans, however, are ambitious and dangerous, representing a bold threat to the might of the Third Reich. Led by Stauffenberg, the group decides to create a shadow government, one that would temporarily govern Germany until a new, democratically elected government could be established. The plan takes a significant turn, however, with the death of two previous key conspirators, Felix Schalk and Josef Graf von Hesa, replacing them with a lesser risk participant that was "expendable" and that could come to take part in place within all activities that related to attempting eliminating Hitler: but more significantly at the last minute and at the invitation of Kreisau other leaders saw the position falling on Claus Von Stauffenberg. On July 20, 1944, Stauffenberg, finding himself unexpectedly thrust into the role of leader, sets in motion the ultimate objective of the resistance movement: assassinating Adolf Hitler. This ambitious endeavor requires an enormous amount of planning, strategy, and sheer bravery, none of which Stauffenberg lacks. He skillfully coordinates the planning and execution of the plot, managing to deceive Hitler's security forces without alerting them to the existence of the conspiracy. With the assistance of other key members within the circle, including Count Hans Bernd Gersdorff and General Friedrich Olbricht, Stauffenberg hatches an intricate plot to assassinate the Fuhrer. The specifics of the plan, although ingenious, come close to disaster when Stauffenberg's trusted lieutenant, Henning von Tresckow, becomes increasingly unhinged with anger, jealousy, and fear of losing everything he has previously worked so hard for. This was the last thing they truly did. Together, the conspirators choose the precise moment and strategy to put their plan into action. Stauffenberg will attend an important meeting of the military high command, where Hitler will be briefing on the status of Germany's Eastern Front campaign. Given the unpredictability and the complexity of the plot, nothing short of perfection can breathe life into it. Early on the morning of the planned assassination, Stauffenberg places the bomb into his briefcase, putting his life on the line by pretending to meet the target that led directly to his assassination plan and planting it near the meeting area. Claus von Stauffenberg seizes the day, walking into the conference room at the Bendlerblock military headquarters in Berlin, his briefcase precariously close to the Fuhrer. Now only a matter of minutes separate him and survival - or catastrophe. Discombobulated and visibly shaken, but risking the lives of those within the room he attempts the deception, feigning as is if he fell asleep. In perfect execution of the plot, the bomb explodes, but not before Hitler has risen from his chair. By a great stroke of bad luck and incredibly, miraculously fortunate - it seems Hitler survived. With the meeting adjourned and participants trying to flee the conference room Stauffenberg could become a hero of this story. Another couple of soldiers in the meeting room are dying from a shrapnel injury either from another source from the explosion which some experts call that this could damage very serious wounds made possibly killing at least four of those around during the infamous blast. As for Stauffenberg, on being informed of the disastrous assassination attempt, the group members remaining and engaged choose a new agenda. To stop and to conceal information getting out about those who conspired is given as priority, especially before they are even aware that the plot they carried out so successfully could have ultimately changed their lives in the foreseeable future of days which stand before them, considering their plan had become unsuccessful. Just hours after the assassination attempt, news begins to spread that Hitler has miraculously survived. Panic and chaos erupt among the high-ranking members of the resistance. With fate seemingly turning against them, the conspirators, including Claus von Stauffenberg, General Erich Fellgiebel, and General Friedrich Olbricht, find themselves caught in the jaws of a ticking time bomb. At this crucial moment, the loyal men by Stauffenberg's side start to doubt their own convictions. As events begin to spin wildly out of control, the plotters realize they have to make some critical last-minute decisions. A change of heart within a few of their principal participants could send everything crashing into an embarrassing conclusion where survival is only key to the present at any moment after further death has touched by the entire group involved.
