Plot

Ruby and her twin sister, the story begins with Ruby and her twin sister, living a life far removed from their idyllic beginnings. Their father has remarried, and they are thrust into the unyielding world of their stepmother and her strict rules. Determined to protect her sister and herself from the cruel hands of their stepmother, Ruby decides that the best way to start anew is to enroll her and her sister into a prestigious all-girls boarding school. As they settle into their new surroundings, Ruby finds solace in the idea that they can finally break free from their abusive home and find some semblance of happiness. She is determined that her sister will not have to endure the same cruelty that she herself has experienced. The boarding school, however, is not the sanctuary that Ruby hopes it will be. The stern headmistress, Mrs. Jenkins, has a personal vendetta against Ruby and makes it her mission to destroy the young girl's self-esteem and self-worth. The school itself is a breeding ground for young women who are forced to compete with one another for the attention and approval of Mrs. Jenkins and the other authority figures. Ruby, on the other hand, finds comfort in the company of a few kindred spirits, students who share her desire to be seen and heard. However, they soon become the target of Mrs. Jenkins' wrath, who takes great pleasure in subjecting Ruby to public humiliation and torturous punishments. As the days turn into weeks, Ruby's life becomes a never-ending cycle of pain and suffering. Mrs. Jenkins takes great care to humiliate her in front of her peers, making sure that everyone knows that Ruby is nothing more than a weak, inferior student. The cruelty of Mrs. Jenkins knows no bounds, and Ruby is forced to endure the harshest of treatments, all because she dares to be different. As the months drag on, Ruby becomes increasingly isolated and withdrawn, forced to find solace in the company of her sister alone. But even their bond begins to fray as Ruby's behavior becomes more and more erratic. She is a ticking time bomb, ready to explode at any moment. The pressure is building, and Ruby's world is rapidly falling apart. Meanwhile, Ruby's stepmother is keeping tabs on her, watching as she suffers through the cruel treatment at the hands of Mrs. Jenkins. She revels in Ruby's pain, knowing that it serves as a reminder of her own power over the young girl. But Ruby's stepmother is not the only one who is keeping a close eye on her. One of the school's teachers, a kind-hearted woman named Miss Lane, has taken a liking to Ruby and has been trying her best to protect her from the clutches of Mrs. Jenkins. However, even Miss Lane's efforts are no match for the headmistress' determination to break Ruby. In the end, it seems as though fate is dealing Ruby a cruel hand. She is forced to endure one final public humiliation at the hands of Mrs. Jenkins, a humiliation so severe that it threatens to destroy her completely. But as she stands before her peers, humbled and broken, Ruby finds a glimmer of hope. She realizes that she is not alone, that there are others out there who understand her pain and her suffering. In the midst of her despair, Ruby finds a strange sense of comfort in the knowledge that she is not the only one who has been broken by the cruel hands of those who are supposed to care for her. It is a realization that gives her the strength to carry on, to find a way to survive in a world that seems determined to destroy her. And as Ruby walks away from the ashes of her former self, she knows that she will never be the same again. She has been forever changed by her experiences at the boarding school, and though she will carry the scars of her past with her for the rest of her life, she will also carry a newfound sense of strength and resilience that will serve her well in the years to come.
