War for the Planet of the Apes

Plot

War for the Planet of the Apes is a 2017 science fiction film directed by Matt Reeves and serves as the third installment in the prequel series that explores the origins of the intelligent ape species. The movie takes place in a world ravaged by a deadly virus that decimated the human population, allowing the apes to thrive and eventually develop their own society. Caesar, the intelligent and charismatic leader of the apes, has lost his family and is left to deal with the aftermath of a brutal attack on his home. The film opens with Caesar, now a vengeful and embittered leader, reflecting on the past and his family. His memories of Maia, his second mate, are tempered by the pain of her loss. Caesar sets out on a perilous journey with a group of his most trusted apes, including a crippled and emotional Koba's illegitimate child, Luca, as well as Bad Ape, who has been captured by a previous regiment, and Chimpanzee, an elderly and wise ape. As they travel through the forest, they come across a deserted human camp settlement. They discover a human female, named Cornelia, who has been abandoned by war and is losing hope. Caesar decides to spare her life, showing mercy to a member of a species that has brought so much pain and suffering to his own kind. However, Cornelia eventually reveals to them a shocking truth: humans have risen from the ashes and, with a leader known as the Colonel, they will not be defeated. Their army consists of reavers, who track down apes with relentless ferocity, thus preventing any settlements from forming even the remotest hope for peace. As the apes continue their journey, their dire need for safe refuge leads them to a fortified base known as the 'Hideaway'. A peaceful place, filled with what once seemed to be a peaceful sanctuary until bloodshed broke down the apes, and it reveals exactly why humans can not live alongside them. This eventually guides them to discovering yet another terrible truth – a captive ape named Bad Ape is actually one of their enemies, captured during the battle, but on one occasion he has become an honest friend with the tribe. Desperate to find a new home, Caesar and his group are directed to a supposed haven deep in the woods – The Sanctuary. The leader, known as the Bad Ape master is at war with the Colonel, leading him to seek out the apes, to join his enemy's fight. Given that much time and effort has unfolded, it will determine their fate. Bad Ape is portrayed as being with two contrasting sides, including being a leader in the Colonel's army, fighting for his people; however he is now in search of a new haven for his colony, because his kind does not wish to be at odds with Caesar's tribe. In the midst of the conflict, Caesar grapples with the weight of his darker instincts. His endless rage for the harm brought upon his family drives him into extreme measures, even when it could potentially cost thousands of lives and, thus, he reflects on the ways in which he can avenge his kind without sacrificing much of his integrity. One crucial encounter between Caesar and the bad ape group comes to pass. He recognizes a painful memory of time he had to endure which compels him to realize that revenge may indeed be helpful but at what long-term costs? With time running out and things moving rapidly towards a conclusive finale, Caesar, remembering Koba's past stories has recognized the human hideout where the Colonel holds captive his remaining family. As Caesar's desperate journey unfurls, both parties are put head to head in an intense battle. Caesar confronts the ruthless Colonel, who has himself has a fragile past just like Caesar. However, their contrasting ideologies lead them into irreconcilable differences, leading them into a fierce confrontation that shakes both human and ape worlds. Amidst the chaos, Caesar develops an ironic bond with a young human who turns out to be Maze, the last remnant of Caesar's tribe, in an attempt to get to see them alive. The conflict reaches a ferocious tipping point when Caesar delves into unknown depths, moving so aggressively against his human assailants that his destiny, far from predicted, does clash with the ruthless Colonel as he loses control under the intense sense of betrayal. Devastated by the heart-wrenching departure of his family in front of him, Caesar then executes his final onslaught on the most powerful men of the group that had stolen his family. The two opposing forces stand locked in fierce combat as their planet's fate hangs precariously in the balance. In a gut-wrenching display of resilience and sacrifice, Caesar's weary and crushed army is laid waste by human reavers, sparking an irreversible conflict that would see both species clash forever. Ample amount of violence, not only among the human population but also within the ape communities leads to a finale. Ultimately, as it unravels into the dark world that Koba and his crew paved, an enigmatic twist unfolds – the humans somehow, manage to outsmart, defeating the powerful ape leader, Caesar through a series of perfectly fabricated snares.
