Waterworld

Plot
In the not-so-distant future, a catastrophic event has ravaged the planet, plunging the world into chaos as the polar ice caps melt, inundating the once solid Earth with a sea of water. Against this backdrop of devastation, a small community of survivors thrives on a mysterious floating island, teeming with makeshift residents. Amidst this makeshift society, a young woman named Enola basks in the freedom of her newfound life, now a part of this community. However, Enola's innocence is short-lived as she discovers a shocking truth about her past. As the story unfolds, we are introduced to Atban Klunton, a tough-as-nails and survival-savvy mariner known colloquially as "The Mariner." Atban is wrongly imprisoned aboard a floating island prison, where ruthless pirate-like authorities manhandle him brutally. However, it is this place where Enola finds him, alongside her beautiful and mysterious savior, Helen. She takes pity on Atban, setting him free from the island's captors. Atban struggles initially from a severe physical distortion due to his past exposure to the corrosive sea water. He also faces a high risk of being left behind due to the rapid breakdown of his physiology in such conditions. Despite these issues, Atban takes Helen and Enola on an arduous journey across the seemingly endless water on his precarious ship, known hilariously as a "smoke." As they brave treacherous waters, strange aquatic creatures lurk unseen beneath the surface. They encapture these fearsome beasts one by one, in turns adapting, evading, and harnessing their features in innovative ways. This precarious journey, among heavy-handed hints of a grueling world, causes these two characters to establish their delicate relationship. Their resolute journey becomes a target for Deacon, the violent, calculating, and grueling pirate hell-bent on locating Enola, who is now taken under Atban's care. He has information Enola possesses – a map that supposedly shows the way to the mythical "Dryland," an incredibly unknown and hopeful concept for humanity's future, and the only surviving continent in an environment flooded by the melting of the ice caps. It becomes apparent that a highly advanced, complex, and possibly even artificial continent has been hidden well beyond that map. Instead of being a real location capable of survival when there was still no sign of this one area, Dryland now serves as the sole source of hope for these people's well-b being. When Helen, Atban, and Enola come across trouble in the guise of fierce and deadly struggles against Deacon and his infamous pirate cohorts, the enigmatic map of an underwater hideout takes an extreme priority. One individual could have, in essence, ensured not just their own existence but that of all humankind, in the unimaginable sight of those that care to dream of such in unimaginable hope.
