What Would Bear Do?

In the wilderness of Alaska, two slackers, Jake (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Elwood "El" (Kelsey Asbille, also known as Elsie Fisher's sister), embark on a journey in hopes of gaining fame by getting the attention of their reality TV survival idol, Bear (Matthew Marsden) - or so they say. Initially, their intentions seem genuine, with a promise to their significant others, El's high school sweetheart, and Jake's ex-girlfriend, Tami (Jenn Lyon), that they will stay chaste and avoid any romantic entanglements. However, as they venture deeper into the Alaskan wilderness, the duo quickly finds themselves getting closer to local girls, a woman named Annie (Kate McKenzie) and a college student named Emily (Kelsey Asbille). The two slackers begin to abandon their moral promises and eventually give in to their desires. Their behavior changes, and they start partying, drinking, and eventually, they lose all their equipment, which puts them in a precarious situation. Jake and El find themselves struggling to survive as they face harsh weather conditions, lack of essential supplies, and their own incompetence. They stumble upon a small town where they interact with Annie and Emily who have recently left town but still leave them contact information in an effort to make amends for leaving them in such rough conditions. As a last resort, Elwood and Jake turn to an eccentric local resident, Mr. Jenkins (Larry Bagby), a bushcraft expert, for guidance. Bear, upon viewing the slacker duo's disastrous expedition, takes notice of their misadventures, which sparks an interest in helping them, but they are not willing to learn and instead opt to follow his instructions to the letter. After being left behind, they face another struggle when El suffers an injury on their way to the town where the help was supposed to meet up. Mr. Jenkins and the town locals provide critical assistance to El and Jake in the hope they'd turn away and never return, but after their rescue, Jake decides to pursue Bear's life even after all that's transpired, which ultimately turns out to be futile.
