Your Highness

Plot

In a medieval-inspired fantasy world, two princes, Thadeous (Danny McBride) and Fabious (James Franco), reside in the kingdom of Pingston. The kingdom's ruler, King Edward (Charles Dance), has announced that his life is fading, and only the Elixir of Life can save him. This mythical elixir is hidden in the lair of the dragon, Leezar. Thadeous, the laid-back and arrogant prince, has no desire to embark on a perilous quest. He is more concerned with indulging in excessive drinking, partying, and generally enjoying his luxurious lifestyle. In contrast, Fabious is an idealistic and chivalrous prince who is driven by a strong sense of duty and honor. The king summons his two sons and informs them that only with the Elixir of Life can he be cured of his terminal illness. If the quest is not completed, the kingdom will fall to the evil prince, Humpty Dumpty's brother - the wicked King Bellian. The ruler assigns Thadeous and Fabious the responsibility of finding the Elixir and sets a deadline of three moons to complete the task. Fabious, determined to save their father's kingdom and fulfill his noble duty, sets out on the quest with a beautiful and fierce warrior, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel). Thadeous reluctantly agrees to accompany his brother, although his primary concern remains enjoying himself rather than facing any real danger. Upon setting out, the two princes quickly encounter the enchanting Isabelle (Nicola Peltz), a beautiful peasant maiden, and her eccentric but charismatic father, the hermit (Danny McBride, uncredited cameo). Despite the initial hesitation, Isabelle becomes an essential part of their journey and provides crucial information about the lair and its surroundings. As they traverse the treacherous landscapes, encountering various obstacles and adversaries, Thadeous and Fabious face numerous challenges that test their brotherly bond and resolve. Thadeous struggles to live up to his more gallant brother, while Fabious finds himself questioning the true nature of courage and chivalry. Fabious and Belladonna become increasingly entangled in a romantic relationship, deepening their attachment to each other. This love develops amidst the challenges of the quest, further cementing the unity between the two brothers. Throughout their journey, Thadeous experiences a series of misadventures that eventually lead him to realize the futility of his hedonistic lifestyle. He begins to grasp the gravity of the situation and starts to take his responsibilities more seriously. His transformation from an indulgent prince to a somewhat more mature and determined individual is an essential aspect of the film. Upon reaching the lair of Leezar, the final challenge awaits the trio. They must confront their deepest fears and the monstrous dragon to retrieve the Elixir of Life. Fabious faces the dragon while Thadeous provides an unexpected assist from behind. Their combined bravery leads them to success, as they secure the elixir. Upon their triumphant return to Pingston, the brothers are hailed as heroes. King Edward, however, succumbs to his illness before the Elixir of Life can be administered. Thadeous, now a bit more mature and introspective, decides to take on a greater sense of responsibility, choosing not to indulge in his old ways. The film's ending features the prince and his bride, Isabelle, embarking on a new beginning, with Thadeous demonstrating a newfound appreciation for duty and chivalry, while still being a somewhat rough-around-the-edges prince. The story comes full circle, emphasizing the importance of growing up and learning from one's experiences.
