In the foreboding alleys and crumbling buildings of Tokyo, the whispers of an urban legend have long been a staple of local folklore. Known as "The Lost Film," it refers to the existence of a motion picture purportedly shot by the ghost of a reclusive film director. Decades have passed since the director's disappearance, but the echoes of his cinematic endeavors continue to captivate the imagination of those who dare to believe. Akane (played by Kiki Sugino), a once-promising film director, finds herself at a creative crossroads. Her work has stagnated, and the fear of failure has begun to suffocate her artistic vision. In an attempt to reignite her passion and reestablish herself in the cutthroat world of Japanese cinema, Akane becomes fascinated by the urban legend of "The Lost Film." She becomes determined to unearth the truth behind the film's existence and its supposed connection to the vengeful spirit of the reclusive director. Akane's investigation leads her to an obscure, dusty video rental store tucked away in the shadows of Tokyo's cityscape. Among the stacks of VHS tapes and crumbling video cassettes, she meets a shopkeeper (played by Shinji Takeda) who seems to possess a morbid fascination with the legend. He sells her a worn-out copy of a film reel containing a fragment of what appears to be the lost footage. The shopkeeper warns Akane about the risks associated with delving into the urban legend, but she refuses to listen, too captivated by the prospect of unearthing the truth. As Akane begins to piece together the fragments of the lost footage, she becomes acutely aware of a series of strange events unfolding around her. Equipment malfunctions, eerie noises echo through her studio, and an unsettling feeling of being watched begins to take hold. Despite these ominous signs, Akane presses on, driven by her insatiable curiosity and the promise of redemption that "The Lost Film" holds. It soon becomes apparent that Akane is not the only one searching for the lost footage. A mysterious figure, rumored to be the reclusive director's long-lost niece (played by Mirei Kiritani), has also been tracking the clues left behind by her uncle. Her intentions, however, are shrouded in mystery, and Akane begins to suspect that she may be in the company of a rival – one who is willing to do whatever it takes to claim the lost footage and unlock the secrets of the "Lost Film." As tensions escalate, Akane's fixation on the urban legend starts to take a toll on her life. Her relationships begin to fray, and her once-promising career is put on the line. The stakes grow higher, and Akane realizes that her pursuit of the truth may ultimately lead to her own downfall. Determined to see her investigation through to the end, Akane ventures deeper into the heart of the mystery, disregarding the warnings and pleas of those who care for her. In a final, desperate bid to uncover the secrets of "The Lost Film," she makes a shocking discovery: the reclusive director's true intentions behind the film were rooted in a morbid fascination with mortality – a theme that would ultimately consume him. As the truth behind the urban legend begins to unravel, Akane finds herself trapped within a nightmarish world of her own creation. With the line between reality and fiction blurred, she must confront the darkest corners of her own psyche and make a choice between abandoning her quest for truth and risking everything for the sake of artistic redemption. The consequences of Akane's actions become all too clear as the curtain closes on the enigmatic film. Will she escape the clutches of the vengeful spirit, or will the urban legend claim another victim? The answer, much like the lost footage itself, remains forever shrouded in mystery.
