An Extremely Goofy Movie follows the story of Max Goof, the only son of the lovable but dim-witted Goofy. Max is a teenager who is eager to assert his independence and start a new chapter in his life as he embarks on college. With the start of college, Max sets his sights on having a life full of excitement, adventure, and freedom. However, his plans for a carefree life take an unexpected turn when his father, Goofy, reveals he has lost his job due to his overwhelming sense of longing for his son's departure. It soon becomes apparent that Goofy's loss of motivation stems from the fact that Max has left for college, leaving him feeling lonely and isolated in their suburban home. The experience is a disaster, with Goofy struggling to keep up with the other participants and ultimately ending up in a humiliating and comedic display of his clumsiness. As the semester comes to a close, Max comes to a realization that his relationship with his father has been strained due to a misunderstanding. He realizes that his father, despite being goofy and awkward, has always meant well and has a genuine interest in being close to him. With newfound appreciation, Max decides to accept his father for who he is and to find ways to connect with him that are not based on their age gap or social cliques.
