Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Plot

In a world where the impossible has become possible, two of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history collide in a battle that will determine the fate of humanity. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a gripping, action-packed film that delves into the minds of two legendary characters, pitting Batman's gritty determination against Superman's god-like powers. The film opens with an elderly Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) visiting a grave site, where he pays homage to his late father, Thomas. This poignant moment serves as a reminder of the trauma Bruce endured as a child, witnessing his parents' brutal murder in front of him. This event sets the stage for his crusade against crime, pushing him to become the caped crusader known as Batman. The story then jumps to the aftermath of the events depicted in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. The world is still reeling from the devastating battle between General Zod and Superman, with Metropolis left in ruins. In the shadows, a new villain, Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), emerges, playing on the public's fear of superheroes. He manipulates the media and the government, depicting Superman as a god-like figure with no accountability. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne attends a party in Gotham, where he encounters Senator June Finch (Holly Hunter), who's suggesting a new act to be passed, giving the government more authority over superheroes. This sparks Bruce's interest, as he begins to investigate the possible rise of another superpowered being. His search leads him to the supposed source of Kryptonite, a powerful radioactive mineral that can weaken Superman. In the midst of this exploration, Bruce finally meets Superman (Henry Cavill), who's still grappling with his role as a hero. The two engage in a heated debate, with Superman advocating for his actions as a justice dispenser, and Bruce emphasizing the dangers of unchecked power. This face-off heralds the beginning of the epic clash between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel. As the rivalry escalates, Batman resorts to underhanded tactics, utilizing his vast wealth and resources to create a technological arsenal that can neutralize Superman. However, his approach only serves to stoke Superman's emotions, making him question Bruce's intentions. The divide between the two heroes widens, setting the stage for their eventual confrontation. The central plot revolves around Lex Luthor, who has made a pact with a demon from the comic book universe: Doomsday, a monstrous creature with the ability to rival the powers of the planet's most robust beings. Realizing Superman's strength as a deterrent against global catastrophe, Lex Luthor orchestrates a clever plan to make the people of Metropolis believe Superman is a threat, using scaremongering tactics to create a climate of fear. Batman sees an opportunity to take down Superman, and his confrontation with him, set amidst a tornado of flames and destruction on the outskirts of Metropolis, ends in tragic fashion. The battle begins with a muddled mess of chaos, building on each other with frenzied bursts of action until the final showdown. Batman is ultimately gravely injured by Doomsday's relentless onslaught. Just when it seems that all hope is lost, Superman realizes that Batman, the one person with whom he had let his guard down, is lying severely wounded before him. He momentarily sets aside his differences to save his adversary. But he does that by exposing himself to the heart of the Doomsday's power and paying an ultimate price for his heroic but selfless act of friendship by dying, delivering a Kryptonite shard to send to the impending fight. It also falls into the hands of the mysterious figure known by the name of Lois who, the next time she sees it, is in an abandoned lot. It shows up ten minutes prior to the last sequence along with two glowing, Kryptonite spikes that hover ever above. With Superman having given the ultimate sacrifice to defeat Doomsday, his body laid to rest, his legend as a symbol of hope endures. As the world mourns the loss of its greatest hero, the seeds are sown for a new era in superhero movies.

After a serious and utterly failed attempt to tell the story in the first fifty minutes, I thought, "Okay, let it be bad, let it be chaotic, just end it quickly..." Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine there would be another 100 minutes! I practically fainted in the theater.

To shoehorn in the Justice League, the writers chose the laziest possible method! Alfred is a true gem - concise, insightful, and delivers incredible sass. The final explosion barrage was bordering on exhausting, but still ultimately satisfying.

Can you feel the awkwardness of Batman just being...there... when Wonder Woman and Superman are battling Doomsday at the end? He just doesn't quite fit in that league.

Okay, here's that fervent review, translated for an English-speaking audience while capturing the original's intensity: "DC just set the world on FIRE with this movie! My mind is completely blown, I feel like an atomic bomb just went off inside me, and I'm still reeling from it! Zack Snyder, you absolute genius! You HAVE to watch this, let me sell you on it!"

Zack Snyder is too serious. The first 90 minutes are bogged down in the brooding of both protagonists, individually and together, making it feel fragmented and dull. However, the final battle has its moments, especially Wonder Woman's entrance. The slow-motion shot combined with the music brings back the director's signature style. Another highlight is the constant Easter eggs and setups throughout the film, with the Flash's two appearances being particularly exciting. The main problem is still the overly serious tone, lacking in lighthearted entertainment, which explains the low ratings.
