Be with You

Be with You

Plot

The movie 'Be with You' revolves around Woo-jin and his young son Ji-ho. Woo-jin's life has been a continuous struggle since the death of his wife Soo-a. She had passed away, leaving behind a heartbroken husband and their 5-year-old son. On the day of her death, Soo-a promised Woo-jin that she would return a year later with the arrival of the rainy season. As it is in South Korea, where the story is set, the rainy season, known as 'biyeol,' brings a lot of significance to the narrative. Soo-a's promise to return with the rainy season becomes a beacon of hope for Woo-jin and Ji-ho, and they eagerly await her return with every passing day. However, when the rainy season finally arrives, Soo-a unexpectedly materializes in their lives again. Woo-jin is overjoyed at the reunion, and Ji-ho's tears of happiness bring back memories of happier times for his father. However, to everyone's dismay, Soo-a shows no recollection of her past life or her family. She appears to be a complete stranger to them. The narrative is built around the poignant moments that this reunion evokes in Woo-jin. Initially, he is ecstatic to see Soo-a alive again, but as the film progresses, he struggles to come to terms with the fact that she does not remember him or their life together. It's as if time has frozen for Soo-a, while everyone else has moved forward. This creates a sense of tragedy, adding depth to the story. As Woo-jin tries to help Soo-a recall her past life, he reminisces about their love story. He remembers how they first met, their marriage, and how Soo-a took care of him and Ji-ho. These flashbacks bring to the audience the depth and intensity of their love. Soo-a was an artist who always believed in the supernatural, and the family's bond was filled with love, hope, and positivity. However, things become even more complicated when Soo-a's memory begins to improve, albeit gradually. She starts to remember bits and pieces of her life, including her love for Woo-jin and Ji-ho, but it's fragmented and disjointed. Woo-jin becomes increasingly frustrated with her, and even Ji-ho starts to doubt whether Soo-a really loves them. Throughout the film, Woo-jin is torn between his love for Soo-a and his love for Ji-ho. His primary concern is Ji-ho's emotional well-being and whether his father is doing the right thing by giving Soo-a another chance. But despite his doubts, Woo-jin continues to do everything in his power to help Soo-a regain her memories and be together again. The movie builds up to a poignant ending where Woo-jin discovers the truth about Soo-a's miraculous return. It is revealed that she has been suffering from a rare medical condition where she experiences periods of time loss. This explains why she had no memories of her family. However, the twist raises even more questions about the narrative. The director carefully navigates between hope and tragedy throughout the story. Despite the numerous complications and heartbreaks, 'Be with You' leaves the audience with a bittersweet and hopeful ending. The movie emphasizes the strength of Woo-jin's love for Soo-a, even in the face of adversity, and encourages him to move forward, but on his own terms. The narrative is a tribute to the enduring power of love and the resilience of the human heart. Even as Soo-a's memories fade in and out, Woo-jin remains steadfast in his love and his hope that one day she will remember him.
