Big Fish & Begonia

Plot

In the enchanted realm beyond the world of humans, the balance of nature is maintained by a mystical group of beings known as the spirits. They possess the power to control the ebbs and flows of the ocean and the cycles of the seasons. Amidst this mystical world, a young and vibrant spirit named Chun lives with an insatiable curiosity about the human world she's only imagined. Fascinated by the stories of the humans she's heard, Chun longs to experience the reality of their existence. As her 16th birthday approaches, Chun receives the permission from the council of elder spirits to embark on her human adventure. However, in order to explore the world of humans, she must take the form of a living creature that inhabits the ocean and is familiar to humans – a dolphin. Chun eagerly accepts this new form and sets out to discover the world beyond the realm of spirits. Upon her arrival at the human world, she's immediately struck by the grandeur of her surroundings and the diverse wonders it holds. As she begins to navigate the ocean's surface, she encounters a young boy named Bai. The boy's kindness and curiosity are a stark contrast to the harsh realities of the world Chun has stumbled into. She soon finds herself drawn to this kind-hearted stranger and the two form an unbreakable bond. However, Chun's life as a dolphin is not without danger. During one of her journeys to explore the surface, she stumbles upon a devastating underwater vortex that poses a significant threat to her very existence. Luckily, her life is spared at the last minute when Bai sacrifices himself to save her, throwing himself into the heart of the vortex to shield Chun from its deadly consequences. Chun is overcome with grief and sorrow upon watching Bai die, but her spirit's innate strength and the memories of their bond give her the resolve to use her magic to revive Bai. Chun uses her powers to resurrect the young boy, but she's aware of the significant cost involved in resurrecting a human soul. The spirits have told her that resurrecting a human being without their consent comes at a terrible price, one that Chun is now all too aware of. The resurrected Bai is not the same boy Chun befriended earlier. The process has left him weakened and drained – his soul, although revived, is not complete and his memories of the past have disappeared. Despite this, Chun takes Bai under her care, determined to help him regain his strength and recapture his memories. She learns that Bai's return to the human world will not be easy and that the world he left behind, like his family and friends, is moving forward without him. As Chun navigates this challenging path with Bai, she begins to realize the magnitude of her responsibility. She knows that her actions have not only put the balance of nature at risk, but also left her own spirit weakened. Chun's actions have put her in a tight spot, where she must decide between protecting Bai's soul and restoring the natural balance. Throughout their journey, Chun and Bai form a deep connection that transcends their respective worlds. As they face numerous challenges and perils, Chun's spirit begins to question her own existence, her own world and its constraints. She ponders the trade-off between the life she knows in the spirit realm and the one she's building with Bai in the human world. As Chun struggles to reconcile the cost of her actions, she and Bai embark on a perilous journey to a hidden sanctuary – a place in the spirit realm where Chun can help Bai regain his memories and find solace in his return to the human world. Their quest is fraught with danger and uncertainty, with Chun's magic and Bai's resolve put to the ultimate test. In the end, Chun's journey becomes a testament to the transformative power of love and friendship. Despite the obstacles and sacrifices they encounter, Chun and Bai continue to support each other, working together to find a resolution that preserves the balance of nature. The movie ultimately weaves a tale of devotion, perseverance, and the human spirit, reminding us that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for redemption and the possibility of new beginnings.
