Plot

In the DC Extended Universe, 'Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)' is a female-led action comedy film directed by Cathy Yan. The movie marks the post-Aquaman universe's first major outing, and introduces Harley Quinn, portrayed by Margot Robbie, as the central figure. Following her split from the Joker, Harley embarks on a journey to establish her own identity and befriend a group of misfits, eventually saving a young woman named Cassandra "Cass" Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco. The plot commences with Cass, an 11-year-old who has stolen the rare diamond known as the "Deezer Act" from crime lord Roman Sionis, played by Ewan McGregor. The diamond was initially supposed to be presented to Sionis, but Cass, often accompanied by her father, is a skilled thief and knows exactly what to do in such situations. Cass makes the mistake, however, of presenting the Deezer Act during the Metropolis Diamond Exchange, where many high-profile thieves were attending. Cass gets noticed, and in order to establish her power and create an aura of fear in the minds of others, Roman Sionis blackmails Yakuza and orders a hit on her so she can learn what fear truly feels like. On the other hand, Harley Quinn has fully parted ways with her former partner, the Joker (Jared Leto), after being left behind by his return in Arkham Asylum. She now makes a name for herself in the Gotham City underworld scene as a single professional thief and a street smart troublemaker, however feeling restrained by her ex-lover's previous legacy that dominates her as her sole source of inspiration. Seeking new experiences and trying the make a name for herself as better, more independent personalities figure in Harley's process of exploring her options in the world. Harley discovers that a young girl Cass has had a target placed on her head and decides to take on a new mission: protect her. Cass gets mixed with a pair of crimefighters: Huntress, the perfect justice-enforcing vigilante, skilled with her assassin tools, portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, as well as a streetwise and tough individual known as Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) who teams up with Huntress on an operation that accidentally allowed Cass to escape from Roman Sionis. The initial team of, Harley, Huntress and Renee will join with the perfect singer. The aforementioned singer named Helena Bertinelli, aka the Huntress's arch-nemesis, is also known as Black Canary, finds herself facing with her own troubled, yet exciting moment of justice as a crime-fighting singer; leaving a hidden past of domestic violence behind, Black Canary's struggle to balance her private world continues yet moves the pivotal figures that drive the story throughout the plot together, but will be leaving behind the troubled relationship. After she is confronted about her troubled past she joins forces with Black Canary. After becoming enraged about how many people had a hand in placing Cass in safety throughout her close adventures - Roman Sionis even leading, one brutal act - an overall sense of camaraderie grows among Harley, Black Canary in addition to Huntress. Determined to defeat an elite who prey on the weak and stand for the crime-filled streets of Gotham City and find herself an enthralling free spirit. By proving they are committed to defending little Cass Cain successfully, each of the women demonstrate an enticing flair in changing her own world and those they shield, one victory after the other at the end - reasserting the power of sisterhood in 'Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)'
