Blue Monkey

Plot

The film Blue Monkey, released in 1987, is a science fiction horror motion picture directed by William Fruet. The movie tells the story of a mysterious illness that begins with a single incident involving a rare insect-borne disease. The story revolves around a greenhouse worker, Dr. Paul Fielder, played by Timothy Busfield, who receives a bite from an exotic plant's insects and subsequently develops serious health problems. Dr. Fielder's condition rapidly deteriorates, and he is rushed to the hospital's emergency room. The doctors are baffled by the symptoms, which appear to be caused by a previously unknown bacteria, coupled with a peculiar and terrifying parasite that emerges from his mouth as a large slimy worm-like creature. The creature, which becomes a monstrous growth due to a genetic growth stimulant, wreaks havoc in the hospital's abandoned wing, sparking fear and chaos among the hospital staff. As the situation spirals out of control, the doctors struggle to diagnose the source and cause of the mysterious illness and the creature's growth. Meanwhile, a scientist, Dr. Kate Holloway, played by Greta Lind, is called in to investigate the possible source of the illness. She suspects that the greenhouse may be the key to the mystery, and that the insects or plants in the greenhouse could be the source of the infection. As more cases of the disease emerge, it becomes clear that time is running out to contain the situation. The creature's size and ferocity continue to grow, causing destruction and panic throughout the hospital. The staff must fight for survival as they attempt to uncover the truth behind the mysterious illness and the monstrous creature that is now terrorizing the hospital. Throughout the film, the atmosphere of dread and tension builds as the staff struggle to comprehend the nature of the disease and the creature's rapid growth. The hospital's abandoned wing becomes a nightmarish setting, where the creature roams free, attacking anyone who crosses its path. The film relies heavily on a sense of realism to create a sense of tension and fear. The medical and scientific aspects of the story are presented in a plausible manner, which adds to the sense of authenticity and believability. The creature itself, though monstrous in appearance, is initially a slimy, worm-like creature that is somewhat terrifying in its unorthodox appearance. As the story unfolds, the tension and fear escalate, setting the stage for a thrilling finale where the doctors must confront the creature in the abandoned wing of the hospital. The scene becomes intense and suspenseful as the doctors, led by Dr. Fielder's colleagues, attempt to stop the creature and restore order to the hospital. Ultimately, Blue Monkey is a thought-provoking horror film that takes the conventions of the genre and subverts them. By grounding the story in medical and scientific reality, the film creates a sense of tension and fear that is both believable and terrifying. The film is a testament to the power of scientific discovery and the dangers of playing with forces beyond human control. The movie's ending, which is both intense and thought-provoking, leaves the audience questioning the consequences of scientific experimentation and the dangers of the unbridled growth of scientific knowledge.
