Plot

Here's the plot summary: Convoy is a 1978 American action film directed by Sam Peckinpah, starring Kris Kristofferson as Martin "Rubber Duck" Penwald, a long-haul truck driver with a reputation for being one of the best on the road. Rubber Duck and his fellow truckers, including Pig Pen (Burt Young), Widow Woman (Madge Sinclair), and Spider Mike (Franklyn Seales), use their CB radios to stay in touch and warn each other about potential dangers, such as law enforcement presence. However, Sheriff Wallace (Ernest Borgnine) is a cunning and ruthless authority figure who has grown tired of the truckers' antics. He's determined to catch them in the act and put an end to their reckless behavior. When Rubber Duck gets into a heated exchange with a truck stop waitress, Lurene (Ali MacGraw), things take a turn for the worse. As tensions escalate between the truckers and Sheriff Wallace, Convoy becomes a tense and action-packed ride filled with high-stakes chases, shootouts, and confrontations. Rubber Duck and his friends find themselves pitted against the law in a battle of wits and wills, with the fate of their freedom hanging in the balance. Throughout the film, Peckinpah's signature style shines through in the gritty realism and poetic prose that defines his work. The film's themes of rebellion, individuality, and the struggle for freedom are timeless and relatable, making Convoy a cult classic that continues to resonate with audiences today.

Back in my childhood, I vaguely recall the introduction of this movie. Was it perhaps aimed at exposing the dark side of the American empire?

Watched @movie center 20220731. This movie, <Convoy>, could be interpreted as a redneck far-right film, or conversely, even be seen as leaning to the left. The truck convoy parade - what an erotic spectacle!! Trucks, the very word evokes the working class, laboriously earning the means of reproduction. Simultaneously, the truck represents the most powerful production machine of the industrial revolution. As an extension of the driver's body, the truck, with the roar of its V8 engine, relentlessly produces forward momentum, breaking through roadblocks on the highway, charging towards the National Guard that hinders freedom. On the other hand, the truck's mobility (from point to point, always...)

This movie offers at least two compelling aspects: the chaotic and exhilarating bar brawl, and the gleeful, high-speed convoy rampage. Furthermore, it holds historical significance as the first American film released in China after the Cultural Revolution. Sam Peckinpah's contribution is truly remarkable.

A serious attempt that ends up being hilariously bad.

Convoy is a high-octane action film that capitalizes on the CB radio craze of the 1970s. With its rugged, take-no-prisoners hero, Rubber Duck, and a motley crew of truckers, the movie is a thrilling ride from start to finish. The cat-and-mouse game between the truckers and the villainous Sheriff Wallace adds an extra layer of tension, making Convoy a must-see for fans of gritty, action-packed cinema. With its nostalgic charm and over-the-top stunts, this film is a wild ride that never gets old.

It's a fun, frothy flick that combines camaraderie with a healthy dose of rebellion against authority—just don't tell the cops!
