Demons

Plot

Demons, a 1985 Italian horror film directed by Lamberto Bava, is a gripping tale of supernatural terror that unfolds in the desolate setting of an abandoned West Berlin movie theater. The movie takes inspiration from the classic horror movie "Suspiria," directed by Dario Argento, and shares a similar atmosphere of dread and unease. The film begins with the arrival of a busload of young people, who have been hired to watch a series of horror movies as a promotion for a new film. Unbeknownst to them, the theater they have chosen to hold the screening is plagued by a malevolent force. As the bus pulls up to the theater, a group of rough-looking men can be seen lingering around the entrance, hinting at a dark history surrounding the building. As the patrons enter the theater, they are greeted by a sinister theater manager, known only as Kurt (played by Nicolai Regney). He is accompanied by his assistant, a pale and nervous-looking man, who appears to be suffering from a severe case of paranoia. The film's main character, Sonja (played by Jacqueline Scislowski), a free-spirited young woman, is immediately drawn to the charismatic film projectionist, George (played by David Allan Baker). As they begin to interact with one another, it becomes apparent that the atmosphere within the theater is becoming increasingly tense. As the horror movie screening commences, the tension is palpable, and strange noises can be heard emanating from within the theater. It soon becomes apparent that something is amiss, and a series of bizarre and inexplicable events begin to unfold. The patrons initially dismiss the strange occurrences as mere product of their overactive imaginations, but soon, a series of gruesome and unsettling murders take place within the theater. A female patron is brutally killed by one of the patrons, while another is dragged behind the curtain and brutally murdered. As the body count rises, so does the panic among the remaining patrons. The group realizes that they are trapped in the theater, surrounded by a malevolent force that seems to be gaining strength by the minute. The true horror of the situation begins to unfold when the patrons start to exhibit bizarre and terrifying behavior, as if they have been taken over by some sort of supernatural entity. George, the projectionist, begins to experience terrifying hallucinations, while Sonja becomes increasingly paranoid, sensing that something is lurking just beneath the surface. As the group struggles to survive, they uncover a dark secret surrounding the theater's past. It appears that the theater was once a hub for occult practices, and the malevolent force that has taken hold of the building is a manifestation of these dark rituals. As the group fights for survival, they are confronted by a series of unspeakable horrors, including grotesque possession and gruesome violence. The tension builds to a climactic finale, where the group is left to confront the true horror that has taken hold of the theater. The final confrontation pits the remaining survivors, including Sonja and George, against the demonic force that has consumed the theater. The scene is both intense and chaotic, with the survivors fighting for their lives against an enemy that seems to be insurmountable. In the end, only one survivor remains, and the fate of Sonja is left to the viewer's imagination. The film ends with a haunting image of an empty theater, eerily lit by the projection room's red lights. The final shot is both ominous and unsettling, leaving the audience with a lasting sense of unease. Demons is a gripping horror film that combines elements of supernatural terror with the classic theme of being trapped in a terrifying situation. The film's eerie atmosphere and unsettling imagery make it a must-see for fans of the horror genre. With its blend of tension, suspense, and supernatural horror, Demons is a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
