In the sun-drenched world of small-town America, where high school football and cheerleading reign supreme, a friendship blossoms between Jennifer Check and Needy Lesnicki. The year is 2005, and the setting is Devil's Kettle, Nebraska, a seemingly idyllic community where everyone knows each other's secrets. Jennifer, a stunning and popular cheerleader, is the epitome of high school beauty, while Needy, her bespectacled and reserved best friend, is the embodiment of unassuming virtue. Their lives take a drastic turn when Jennifer is brutally murdered by a sex-crazed rock band at an abandoned gravel pit on the outskirts of town. Or so it seems. In a shocking twist, Jennifer returns from the dead, but she's far from the same person. Her corpse has become a vessel for a malevolent demon, one that feeds on human flesh and fuels a sinister hunger for destruction. As the resurrected Jennifer begins to wreak havoc on Devil's Kettle, Needy is initially at a loss to understand what's happening to her former friend. Jennifer's revival starts innocently enough, with the cheerleader killing and devouring her victims in a fit of rage. Needy, however, soon realizes that something is terribly wrong with her friend and that Jennifer is no longer in control of her actions. As Jennifer embarks on a campaign of terror, Needy must come to terms with the reality of Jennifer's possession and the fact that she may be powerless to stop her friend's newfound appetite for violence. As the body count rises, Needy finds herself in a desperate bid to save her friend and restore her to her former glory. With the help of the lovable but awkward Angel, Needy sets out to uncover the secrets of Jennifer's resurrection and find a way to exorcise the demon. However, their investigation is hindered by the town's corrupt and complacent authorities, who seem more concerned with maintaining the status quo than addressing the supernatural menace threatening their community. Throughout the film, the town of Devil's Kettle becomes increasingly enthralled by Jennifer's newfound notoriety. Cheerleaders and their pom-poms emerge as symbols of conformity and superficiality, while Needy's awkwardness and braininess serve as a counterpoint to the sugary façade of suburban America.
