Killer Elite
Plot
Here is the movie summary: Killer Elite is a 2011 action thriller film that tells the true story of Danny Grant, a former British Special Air Service (SAS) operative turned hitman. The film takes place in the late 1980s and stars Jason Statham as Danny, who has retired from his deadly profession after experiencing PTSD following a botched mission. However, when his mentor and former commanding officer, Hunter (Robert De Niro), is kidnapped by a powerful sheikh (Youssef Kassab), Danny is forced back into the game. The sheikh demands that Danny complete three assassinations in exchange for Hunter's safe release. The targets are all high-ranking officials who have betrayed the sheikh in some way, making them fair game for elimination. Danny teams up with a fellow operative, Spike (Cliff Curtis), to carry out the hits. Along the way, he also crosses paths with a deadly assassin named Amir (Mehdi Nebbou). As Danny navigates the treacherous landscape of international espionage and murder, he begins to question his own morality and the true cost of his actions. Meanwhile, Hunter is being held captive by the sheikh's henchmen, who are determined to extract information about Danny's whereabouts. As the body count rises and the stakes grow higher, Danny must use all his skills and experience to stay one step ahead of his enemies and rescue his mentor before it's too late. Throughout the film, Statham brings his signature tough-guy charm to the role of Danny, while De Niro lends gravity and depth as the seasoned operative Hunter. The action sequences are fast-paced and intense, with plenty of gunfire, hand-to-hand combat, and high-stakes chases. Overall, Killer Elite is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that explores the dark world of mercenaries and assassins.

Jason Statham is undeniably magnetic in this film. His signature bald head, coupled with that rugged beard, and his powerfully agile physique are captivating. But it's his unwavering, decisive gaze – sharp as a predator's when locking onto its prey – that truly seals the deal. Of course, Clive Owen, with his neat mustache and chillingly blue eyes, is equally dashing. Watching these two style icons face-off is a major draw, though the movie does get bogged down in unnecessary length and details.

Likely addled from academic writing, my standards for judging films have dropped. Giving it 4 stars purely for Robert De Niro.

What should have been a straightforward and entertaining action blockbuster, the director strangely tries to mold into something akin to "Munich." The result: action sequences take a backseat, and more importantly, the shallow story lacks the depth to warrant any grand aspirations. It falls short on both fronts. However, to its credit, the film retains the spirit of old-school, hard-boiled action flicks and refreshingly avoids jumping on the bandwagon of forced bromance or unnecessary gimmicks.

A pre-Syrian war action flick, a conspiracy surrounding Middle Eastern oil.

The film, based on a shocking true story, drops you into the heart of a high-stakes mission where two elite operatives must confront their deepest secrets and each other. With a gripping plot and intense performances, it’s a thrilling ride that keeps you on edge. But beneath the action lies a darker exploration of loyalty, betrayal, and the heavy cost of war. It’s not just a movie—it's a mirror reflecting the shades of humanity in times of conflict.

This gripping thriller brings the brutal reality of power games to life, where even the most elite can fall. The battle between Danny and Hunter is not just about betrayal but about survival in a world where loyalty is a liability. And who really holds the power? In this intense game, it's not just about winning—it's about keeping your soul intact.
