Millionaires' Express

Plot

The Millionaires' Express is a 1986 Hong Kong action comedy film directed by Jackie Chan. The film follows the journey of the luxurious, state-of-the-art express train, the Golden Phoenix, carrying a mix of esteemed passengers. Among them are Minister Wu (played by Hua Yueh), Minister Tsai (played by Kenneth Tsang), and a prominent businessman, Mr. Kuo (played by Hing Ko). In reality, the express train is not as luxurious as it appears. It is filled with thieves, gamblers, and corrupt officials. When the train finally arrives at Hanshui, a group of fugitive bank robbers, led by Wang Hua-i (played by Jackie Chan), board the train while attempting to evade the authorities. Wang, the leader of the fugitives, quickly finds himself caught in the midst of chaos as the Golden Phoenix approaches Hanshui. Wang, an expert at escaping danger and fighting his way out, becomes an important figure in the unfolding events at Hanshui. With the corrupt and cunning authorities trying to capture him and his gang, Wang forms a temporary alliance with another fugitive on board the train, a gambler named Lin (played by Sammo Hung), who also has skills in martial arts. A local woman, Lin Ching (played by Joey Wang), also boards the train at Hanshui, looking for her lost husband. Lin Ching's search leads her into the heart of the chaos unfolding. Minister Wu begins a romance with Lin Ching, which leads to further complications as Minister Wu struggles with his own morals due to his corrupt intentions. He is accompanied by his mistress, a concubine named Yu (played by Emily Chu). Minister Tsai is a cunning and manipulative official who is involved with the corrupt system. However, he tries to cover his tracks and make the most of his position in the government by exploiting his position and the power it brings him. Throughout the story, Wang continuously evades danger. He forms alliances with a few kind-hearted officials, like Chief Inspector Tsang (played by Lau Fai), but mostly keeps to himself to protect his gang and ultimately reach the safety of the next major town. Lin Ching finds herself caught between her feelings for Minister Wu and her loyalty to her missing husband. Wang's and Lin Ching's lives intersect when they both find themselves fighting against Minister Wu's attempts to cover up his own corruption. Ultimately, Wang's gang, along with Lin and the honest officials, must face off against the authorities, Minister Tsai, and Minister Wu's cohorts in a final showdown at the Hanshui train station. The film ends with both the passengers and Wang's gang escaping the chaos, as well as the exposure of the corruption among the high officials in the story. Overall, the Millionaires' Express offers a fast-paced blend of action, comedy, and romance in the midst of intrigue in this exciting and thrilling tale of adventure and heroism set against the backdrop of the chaotic express train journey.
