Superman

Plot

In the iconic 1978 film Superman, directed by Richard Donner and starring Christopher Reeve as the iconic superhero, the world is introduced to the legendary origin story of the Man of Steel. The movie opens on Earth, where a young Joanne Kenmore, played by Marlon Brando, and her husband Jonathan are fleeing their home in Smallville, Kansas. They are met with a severe tornado, which their infant son Clark escapes due to his extraordinary abilities as an infant. This scene sets the tone for Clark's life, hinting at his extraordinary powers and his humble beginnings. The story then transitions to Metropolis, where we meet Clark Kent, played by Christopher Reeve, as a mild-mannered journalist working for the Daily Planet alongside his childhood friend and colleague Jimmy Olsen, played by Marc McClure, and his idol, Perry White, played by Jackie Cooper. Clark's long-held crush, Lois Lane, played by Margot Kidder, is introduced, working alongside Clark at the Daily Planet. Lois is portrayed as a determined and ambitious journalist who is enamored with a story that could potentially catapult her career. Meanwhile, the notorious nuclear physicist, Professor Emil Hamilton, plays a significant role in unraveling the mystery behind Superman's origin. Hamilton informs Clark's adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent, that their son exhibits genetic traits resulting from exposure to Earth's yellow sun. They had discovered the fetus floating to earth and, with the help of a local doctor, were able to give birth to Clark on their farm in Smallville. As the action unfolds, Superman is unaware that Lex Luthor, played by Gene Hackman, a ruthless and cunning businessman, discovers a way to create a large-scale, oil-extraction satellite that orbits the Earth, designed to siphon off all the world's available fuel. Lex Luthor, with the help of his partner, Otis, brainwashes Lois into helping him carry out his plan, and with the illusion of a severe oil shortage, Lex gains control over the world's source of energy. As Superman discovers Lois's plan to expose Lex, they engage in a battle that he stops after discovering Lois is under a hypnotic trance. When the extent of Lex's manipulation is revealed, Lois breaks free from the suggestion and, with her resolve strengthened, reunites with Clark at the Daily Planet. During this time of struggle, Perry appoints Clark to cover a Kryptonian antique purchase, a model of a world-famous statue of the winged horses created by Kryptonian artists: the Talapese winged horse statues, which would fuel an unexpected need vital to the Earthlings fate in the movies climax and become significant in understanding the myth surrounding Clark's past. As Superman begins to unravel the mysteries of Lois's enigmatic mind and his inner strength matures, his bond with the people of Metropolis and his friends grows stronger. Lex Luthor, following the event of his partner's (Otis) demise and after Superman foils his plan, later comes to Kansas, intent on killing Lex's double-life nemesis's widow, making it seem that Jonathan Kent had killed his wife while still a civilian during Clark's first days on this planet and in killing his adoptive father in front of Lois, Clark finally understands his adoption. However, Superman manages to overpower Lex for a second time and saves Lois from his final trick involving an oil rig under stress. Lois initially wonders who saved her but as she describes her views from their short falling height when as one hovers over Metropolis with an airplane, then suddenly drops two stories that's partially broken due to explosion under them and asks newspaper worker to sign a paper who he gave it to and when asked said it 'was Superman.

Given James Gunn's track record with animal characters in superhero films, maybe we'll get to see Krypto the Superdog this time around!

Can't get Henry Cavill? Just find someone to play *as* Henry Cavill then, huh? And they even found a muscle-less, teen version of him!

I'm craving a Superman who embodies sunshine, warmth, and unwavering justice. No gloomy, gritty, or burdened-by-tragedy narratives, please! What I truly desire is the purest essence of a superhero film!
