Miracolo italiano

Plot

The collection of short tales woven together in Miracolo italiano presents a multifaceted commentary on the lives and relationships of various Italian individuals in the 1990s. The anthology traverses numerous themes, expertly combining the comedic, the poignant, and the thought-provoking to portray the complexities of life in the decades that followed Italy's fascist regime. The opening vignette introduces the juxtaposition of two Italian MPs, Luca and Luca's counterpart, at loggerheads from opposing ends of the political spectrum. Tensions rise as the pair are forced to share a confined space in a rainsoaked train. As the journey unfolds, Luca is taken aback by his adversary's unexpected vulnerability, leading to an intense conversation which hints at a deepening connection. An overnight stay turns the duo into unlikely bedfellows, leaving their contentious argument abandoned until the next day. This unexpected, lopsided entente foreshadows that for the remainder of the film, there are moments where the boundaries between love, politics, and identity blur. The narrative unfurls, exploring a more humorous scenario presented by Il matrimonio. A woman eager for love, Pina indulges, or so it seems, in fervor for a doting film star and soon she finds her fantasies to be nothing more than an amusing escapade. At her expense, however, a charming soap actor, Riccardo, employs his famous face as a ploy to woo her on their picturesque honeymoon. The tale then delves into Il delitto è servito – no longer just an adaption of a tragic Greek tale but also something a little less melodramatic as a married businessman enjoys flirting – attempting to trick his attractive younger nurse into falling for him under the pretense that he is severely ill. Later this deception causes emotional turmoil when both parties inadvertently build strong bonds. This fleeting diversion leaves significant scars on the union once their act is revealed. Subsequently, a charming and striking transition ensues, tracing the story of Margherita e Mario, two young adults bound for matrimony. It becomes clear that their forthcoming wedding may be marred when Margherita seeks serious counsel from her mentor – just a small but important detail – only then to confront Mario. Mario, initially left confused, confronts his unease, gradually unfolding to the truth: Margherita was born with a more feminine sense during the onset of puberty and hence identified as female. Faced with these challenging circumstances, they struggle between resolving to ultimately celebrate one another despite being different in a period known for being conservative. After grappling with conflict that emerges as Margherita and Mario aim to reconcile their love amidst expectations of expectation from those such as her parents who are at odds – contrasting values prevail as one woman grows tired of adhering to societal conventions of expectation. The tale revolves around Silvana, an unlikely romcom persona. Silvana yearns intensely after Kevin Costner; it isn't long, though, before the American celebrity seeks her from afar with the hope of catching a romantic dinner. To her horror, what really develops initially is an empty verbal transaction. The intimacy she deeply longed to share somehow dissolves at the dinner, though earlier events left her ecstatic thinking she could finally share some real moments. Their chemistry however is tested further when, unexpectedly to the onlookers present, she perceives that she's somehow duped, her crush completely unaware and disinterested. Crush and reality depart, she is shocked to experience heartbreak that she had avoided throughout her mundane day-today. Ultimately, while many a person all around feels as if they can change their fate, La classe is depicted to us being a euphoric show of genuine friendship - perfect for laughter, hope and most noticeably pure pleasure: two friends, already taken care of, may somehow give up on that and pursue possibilities as friends who dare the unforeseen. Choosing another path initially leads to several personal setbacks, but allows companionship. Pursuing pleasures only through familiar tastes is what allows friendship between her couple once it re-emerges. In the closing scene to Amore, Elena attends a cultural course led by the beautiful, attractive-looking Aloise out in their exotic island. Aloise would also introduce her a serene connection with several other friends; she even, in time, knows how intensely complicated everyday issues soon become across multiple personalities and connections becoming tied together one another. She and the group are mesmerized by Aloise whose captivating authenticity is interwoven seamlessly into genuine beauty. Struggling at the onset between unrequired love and true friendship, the protagonists manage to learn simple and unwavering love and learn and find strength from each other.

Watched it again and this time noticed a lot beyond the plot: the wife reading novels every night before bed, often singing and playing the piano, must be from a well-educated class; the decorator repairing the Baroque old church ceiling, a small snippet of art history from the 17th to the 19th century is inserted into a few lines of dialogue; going to the opera, no less than Caruso himself singing "Una furtiva lagrima"; in such a beautiful house, the farcical quarrels between the two branches of the declining noble family; the spectators in the roadside tavern enjoying the gossip about other people's love affairs; and finally, a tribute to Fellini's films, conservative Sicily actually...

1. The fantasy sequences of killing his wife and the imagined monologues of a lawyer defending him are brilliant. This perfectly captures the inner world of a husband painstakingly plotting his wife's murder, brought to life by the director through visuals and sound. 2. The lead actor's performance is outstanding! His expressions and movements are incredibly lifelike, creating a genuine and immersive experience. 3. The cousin is stunningly beautiful. 4. That final shot... a stroke of genius. 5. Green hat, wear it with pride. (referring to the character being cuckolded)
