Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Plot

John and Jane Smith appeared to be the epitome of perfection, living the quintessential suburban lifestyle in their upscale neighborhood. The façade they presented to the world was that of a happily married couple, with a comfortable home, two adorable kids, and a seemingly idyllic life. However, beneath this façade lay a complex web of deceit and danger, as both John and Jane harbored dark secrets that threatened to upend their seemingly serene existence. Unbeknownst to each other, John and Jane were both highly trained assassins who worked for rival organizations. They had unknowingly hidden their true identities and pasts behind their suburban disguise, revealing only surface-level information to each other, and perhaps to those closest to them. This fabrication of normalcy and honesty made it simple to maintain their dual identities outwardly unbroken, but struggled with keeping this double life from merging and eventually, both their and their kids' lives became disrupted. As fate would have it, John's organization assigned him the task of eliminating Jane, while Jane's organization targeted John for elimination. Initially unaware of this impending crossover, each party discovered the situation differently. Initially with a mix of disgust and fright, their shock subsides to intense unease, panic and then, an existential review of all they'd been through and built so far. Lana and Gabriel - the directors - work their magic as they spin one action-filled sequence after the next in a wondrous celebration of non-stop suspense and deception. John and Jane were both well-trained assassins who'd been to the depths of danger; nothing could any longer keep them both scared. "I love you," says one; "I love you, too," says the other. However, their communication evolves. They also switch roles they've played for years. "These conventions don't interest us," the high-calibre ex assassin says to his family lady husband ex. Taking advantage of their mutual understanding, John and Jane devise a plan to dodge their organizations. Leaving their lives together turns out to be perilous for all close to them. "You're dead by tomorrow," a message from someone associated with the deceased John Smith threatens which would have frightened any ordinary wife; upon coming to realize, Jane instead takes the challenge to kill John which will avoid harming family. However, both John and Jane choose their own rules when she kills him for getting her husband out of the "midnight drop trap" ultimately sending both organizations over the limit into a destructive chaos that results in self-inflicted pain and death for everyone involved in it. Their initial separation in between the both was unavoidable because each got what they thought of for a cause. A bond within is first needed which in the film sparks midway through. Throughout all that happens, their relationship blossoms instead of diminishing into hate.
