No manches, Frida

Plot
"No manches, Frida" is a Mexican comedy film released in 2016, directed by Sergio Zayas. The movie revolves around Zequi, played by Omar Chaparro, who has just been released from prison after serving a short sentence for a bank robbery. Zequi is an experienced thief and the brains behind the operation, but unfortunately, his partner, "Mango" (Luis Gerardo Méndez), managed to escape with half of the stolen money. Now that Zequi is out of prison, his focus shifts to finding the remaining loot. According to his calculations, "Mango" buried their share in a specific location. However, Zequi fails to notice that "Mango" had given him a fake address, making it impossible for him to find the hidden treasure. In a surprising twist of fate, the location where the money is hidden turns out to be a high school gymnasium called "Frida Kahlo School." The school is a thriving institution, and its gymnasium has become a central hub for the students. The gym's new owner, a zealous principal named Señor Sandoval (César Bono), is particularly proud of the facilities. Zequi soon discovers that the gymnasium holds the exact location where "Mango" supposedly buried the loot. However, finding the money becomes more complicated than Zequi anticipated. Not only are the students and staff at the gymnasium blissfully unaware of what lies beneath them, but Zequi also discovers the presence of a new high school teacher, Ms. Frida (Kathy Sainz), who is none other than the principal's daughter and a strict, yet endearing, teacher. Zequi concocts a plan to infiltrate the school without drawing too much attention from Ms. Frida and Señor Sandoval. The former bank robber, who has lost his touch in the thieving world due to his recent imprisonment, struggles to maintain a disguise as the new gym teacher to the disapproving eyes of Frida and Sandoval. Throughout the film, Zequi gets involved in various misadventures and school competitions, inadvertently forming bonds with the students. The group includes a talented soccer player named Toño (Fernando Noriega) who is also in love with his classmate, Frida, and his sister, Loli (Danna Paola) who has a unique gift of being an exceptional singer and dancer. As the story unfolds, Ms. Frida discovers Zequi's true identity, but instead of turning him over to the law, she develops a strong sympathy for the bank robber. It soon becomes apparent that Zequi has also become a positive influence on the school and its students, transforming from a troubled individual into someone who genuinely cares about others. Meanwhile, a subplot involving a high-stakes school play adds more complexity to the story. Zequi, with the help of the students, comes up with a strategy to create a school musical that will not only save the school's reputation but also give him an opportunity to find the hidden loot. As the students work together with Zequi, they learn valuable life lessons about teamwork, hard work, and the importance of staying true to oneself. As the film reaches its climax, Zequi must decide whether to go after the hidden money or to take a different path in his life. His newfound friendship and connection with the students force him to reevaluate his priorities and make the right choice. With the help of Ms. Frida and the students, Zequi finds the loot but also realizes that money is not everything in life. With the school's musical now underway, the students deliver a stunning performance, which ultimately changes the school's outlook and reputation in the community. Señor Sandoval is proud of the school's accomplishment and the bond created between the students and Zequi. In the end, the bank robber-turned-gym-teacher must accept the consequences of his past actions and the path he has chosen for himself.

Holding your hand under the rainbow flag! A spiritual redemption! A sense of fatalism in a life on the run! The director shot it so beautifully! Freedom is the oxygen of the soul!!!

If all the major CPs could have as much official after-service as OffGun, that would be amazing. And this YokDan secondary CP is so appealing! First looks like the seme role! Gawin has such a contrasting and interesting character design!

Why are BL dramas from other countries exploding in popularity this year?

Seriously?... Plot aside, the male lead's acting is a bit cringey... There's such a thing as overdoing encouragement, just saying.

Okay, the director's got some serious guts, I gotta give it to him. I'm bumping this up to 5 stars just to show my support 😅. He's so daring that every time I try to write a review about what he did, Douban censors me immediately! You guys get the picture, right? 😂
