Saw III

Plot
Saw III takes place shortly after the events of Saw II, in which Amanda Young escaped the clutches of Jigsaw's former apprentice, Eric Matthews, with the intent of fulfilling her mentor's legacy. Unbeknownst to the authorities, Dr. Lynn Denlon, an anesthesiologist specializing in pain management, is about to become Jigsaw's chosen participant in his notorious game. Denlon, who is initially unaware of her involvement, is drawn into Jigsaw's web after he kidnaps her and brings her back to the infamous "shack" where countless other games have transpired. Inside, she meets Jeff Reinhart, a young man struggling with addiction, whom Jigsaw has also chosen for the game. The rules as dictated by Jigsaw require Lynn to keep her patient alive for a certain period of time to secure his freedom; if she fails, Jeff will meet a gruesome demise. Jigsaw also provides Lynn with a series of instructions and devices that dictate how she is to keep Jeff alive. She is armed with a lockbox attached to a collar on her neck that contains a key to unlock a gun; each time a countdown timer reaches its end, Jeff will be given a small amount of time to save himself. Amanda Young, who we last saw in the previous installment, appears once more, now a more sinister character as she seems to accept her place as Jigsaw's apprentice. It is shown that she has become deeply disturbed by the events that took place in the first game and is fully committed to Jigsaw's legacy. In another separate storyline, Daniel Matthews, who had his leg removed by Jigsaw in the first film to prevent a gang from committing a heinous crime, now seeks revenge on his brother, Eric. Daniel's backstory, and the events that have driven him to seek vengeance, serve as foreshadowing to his actions throughout the film. As Amanda continues her role as Jigsaw's apprentice, she begins to develop her own sadistic tendencies, mirroring those of her mentor. Her involvement with Lynn and Jeff further illustrates her deepening connection to Jigsaw's twisted world. As the game within the shack unfolds, Amanda is put into a separate situation where she is tasked by Jigsaw to observe a family in distress. Their daughter is about to undergo brain surgery in an hour to remove a tumor, though they are unable to afford the medical procedure. Jigsaw's plan has set a trap where the mother will be held captive, only to be forced to make a choice to either have her daughter die during the operation or find a way to pay for the surgery. Back at the shack, Denlon finds it increasingly difficult to maintain Jeff's life as her deadline draws near. In what seems to be an attempt to save her patient, she manages to outsmart Jigsaw's devices and escape with Jeff. However, it becomes clear that Lynn is being driven by her own emotions rather than a pure intent to save her patient. Daniel Matthews begins a violent rampage, intent on capturing Amanda, whom he believes is the only one who can help him understand Jigsaw's motivations. Meanwhile, Amanda's involvement with Lynn and Jeff grows darker, illustrating her increasing connection to Jigsaw's sinister games. The film culminates with a complex confrontation involving Lynn, Jeff, and Amanda. Lynn ultimately decides to allow Jeff to die, rather than continue the game as instructed by Jigsaw. Her decision stems not from any desire to protect her patient but from a desperate attempt to save herself. Lynn, feeling threatened by Amanda's growing connection to Jigsaw's plans, takes drastic action to assert control and escape. As the film comes to a close, Daniel's pursuit of Amanda ultimately ends with her apparent capture. However, it is not Amanda who is ultimately taken into custody, but Lynn, whose actions have revealed her connection to the games. The film ends with a sense of ominous foreboding, hinting at the continued games and twisted plans of Jigsaw and Amanda.
