Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Plot

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a 2010 action-comedy film directed by Edgar Wright and based on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley. The movie follows the story of Scott Pilgrim, a 22-year-old musician who dreams of becoming successful in the Toronto music scene. Along with his bandmates Stephen Stills, Young Neil, and Kim Pine, they form an inauspiciously-named group, Sex Bob-omb. Scott Pilgrim's life is revolving around his relationships with various high school girls. He has a tendency to abruptly get rid of them when they start getting too possessive or clingy, giving his band members endless opportunities to tell war stories about past conquests. Scott's life becomes increasingly crowded with an entourage of ex-girlfriends, but when a colorful anime-inspired girl named Ramona Flowers appears on the scene, his life changes considerably. Despite being wary due to her seven evil ex-boyfriends, Scott finds himself immediately drawn to Ramona's quirky charm, striking blue streaks in her hair, and overall enigmatic nature. Upon confessing his love for her, Scott faces his insecurities through a particularly unorthodox series of challenges: her seven deceased beaus return to wreak havoc on his life and thwart his dating ambitions. Each ex-boyfriend is an extreme reflection of Scott Pilgrim's numerous personal flaws and shortcomings. Matthew Patel, Ramona's first ex-boyfriend, has an arrogant air that comes with having been involved in her earliest high school relationships, indicating his unwavering resistance to sharing Ramona. Lucas Lee, Ramona's second ex, portrays the idol whom many would risk their relationships for, as he is successful and charismatic, and an aspiring Hollywood star. Each confrontation between Scott and Ramona's ex-boyfriends helps him confront and overcome these issues. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World does deliver a variety of unexpected situations, for example, when Scott battles the third ex-beau, Todd Ingram, who displays exceptional control over his bass and develops into both a charming figure and strong musician. Another highly memorable scene from the film revolves around Gideon Graves, Ramona's seventh and thus last boyfriend, Scott must also contend against. Gideon stands apart from the other would-be bandmates with his beautiful unique bass and its incredible sound quality. However, getting over Gideon is more severe than overcoming the previous confrontations. Everything in Scott Pilgrim's life during this period takes place in perfect concert. They combine key elements from numerous action film scenes that viewers know and love. The video games Scott plays during down time get progressively tougher when referring to Ramona's exes and their attempts at achieving ultimate bliss between each other. Throughout his odyssey in discovering Ramona Flowers, Scott makes poignant transformations by continually unveiling all aspects of his life that are a barrier to breaking through. His dedication to Ramona takes a toll, showing exactly what form it takes when we finally find something we yearn for.
