Plot
For one month out of every year, five lifelong friends - Hoag, Chris, Eddie, Scales, and Jerry - engage in an intense game of tag. The rules are simple: one person is 'it' or the "tagger" while the others try to avoid being tagged. This game, reminiscent of their carefree childhood days in the first grade, has been an annual tradition for these five friends. As they grow older, their personal lives change, but their annual game remains a constant. However, when Jerry, the most skilled and undefeated player of the group, gets married, it creates a unique twist in the game. With the upcoming nuptials, Jerry, confident that his friends wouldn't dare tag him on his wedding day, believes he has finally become an untouchable target. The stakes are set high, and the competition among the friends escalates. Each of them is determined to be the one to tag Jerry, not just for the thrill of winning but also as a final victory before their carefree days come to an end. As Jerry and his fiancée, Anna, prepare for their wedding, Jerry is focused on finding ways to evade his friends. He puts up a high-tech security system around his house and even hires a few guards to watch out for the group. Despite these precautions, his friends remain determined to tag him, each developing their own elaborate plans to outsmart Jerry's defenses. Meanwhile, the movie explores the lives of the five friends as they navigate through adulthood. Hoag, a wealthy businessman, is struggling to find his identity, while Chris, a high school teacher, is trying to balance his family life with his competitive side. Eddie, a former athlete turned gym owner, is still trying to hold onto his youthful energy. Scales, a laid-back IT consultant, is a master of strategy and deception. Jerry's life, however, is marked by the annual game, and its end could signal a significant change. As the wedding day approaches, the stakes become even higher. Jerry's friends are more desperate than ever to finally tag him, and Jerry becomes more paranoid. Anna, sensing her fiancé's distress, starts to realize that there is more to Jerry's anxiety than meets the eye. The night before the wedding, Jerry's friends gather near his house, each armed with their chosen tactics. They set their strategies in motion, and a thrilling game of cat and mouse unfolds. Using hidden cameras, fake decoys, disguises, and even drone surveillance, the friends attempt to infiltrate Jerry's defenses and claim the elusive tag. However, as the night wears on, their elaborate plans begin to falter. Jerry has anticipated many of their moves and has prepared an array of countermeasures. His friends are met with a series of traps and obstacles that force them to improvise and adapt. In the end, one of Jerry's friends does manage to get the better of him, but not through any clever strategy or gadget. Instead, it's Jerry who inadvertently tags himself, revealing that the true purpose of the annual game wasn't just about winning but also about the bonds of friendship. The movie ends with the friends laughing and joking as they celebrate their annual game and Jerry's marriage to Anna. They realize that, no matter how old they get or how much their lives change, the spirit of competition and camaraderie will continue to bring them together. The annual game of tag has become a cherished tradition that transcends the boundaries of age, occupation, and marital status. As they walk off into the sunset, the five friends know that they will be back for another round next year, and the game will continue, a testament to the enduring power of friendship and the joy of competition.
