The Cobbler

Max Simkin, the protagonist of Renny Harlin's 2014 family drama film, "The Cobbler," is a New York shoemaker who finds solace in the time-honored tradition of his family's repair shop. For generations, the shop has stood as a testament to the Simkin legacy, with Max being the latest to carry on the family name. As Max's ability grows stronger, so does his fascination with the lives of those he impersonates. From the charming ladies who wear elegant stilettos to the rough-around-the-edges men who sport heavy work boots, Max finds a depth to each of their characters that he had previously overlooked. However, Max's newfound ability is soon put to the test as he gets drawn into the lives of the various people he steps into shoes for. A young, troubled woman, who he steps into stilettos for, reveals a darker, more sinister side to her life, showing Max the harsh realities she faces in a world that seems to be perpetually hostile. A group of gang members show him a different side to their tough, rough world, a side that Max had previously misunderstood. In a moment of desperation, Max uses the cobbler's last to step into the shoes of a wealthy businessman whose suit fits him perfectly. Within this role, Max gains access to a world of luxury and power that seems to be the ultimate goal many people strive for. Max must come to terms with the fact that his new understanding of the world has not necessarily improved his life as a cobbler but may, in fact, have the potential to save it. In the end, Max learns that stepping into the shoes of others has given him a unique perspective on life, but it has not revealed his true identity. Rather, it has allowed him to see himself more clearly, and it has shown him the importance of preserving the legacy of his family and the community he serves.
