When the child is born, King Zhuangxiang orders that he be raised as an assassin, and that the assassin be trained to be the most feared and skilled killer in the land. This new assassin, with the name of Jing Ke, is the chosen one. Jing Ke is raised in secret and trained in the art of assassination. His mother, sent by the king, had also been trained as an experienced and skilled warrior. Jing Ke grows up as an orphan trained in martial arts and given as an infant to a family in the city. However, his past and his parents are a closely guarded secret known to only a select few in the kingdom. As Jing Ke grows in skill and strength, he earns the title of the "Devil of Huainan" for his deadly reputation as a skilled killer trained by Lü Bu, one of the most feared swordsmen in all of China. The king is pleased with Jing Ke's progress, and the assassin is tasked with his first mission as an assassination agent of the king. As Jing Ke becomes more skilled and ruthless in his missions, he gains a sense of purpose beyond mere obedience to the king. He begins to see the world as a complex web of alliances and rivalries between different kingdoms, and realizes that the king's actions are driven by a desire for power and control. Jing Ke's moral compass begins to shift as he witnesses the devastation caused by the wars between different kingdoms, and the innocent lives lost in the process. Meanwhile, Lü Zhi, Jing Ke's mother, has grown disillusioned with the king's cruel and unjust rule. She begins to harbor a deep resentment towards the king, and her loyalty falters. As Jing Ke's skills and reputation grow, so does Lü Zhi's unease. She begins to question whether the path the king has chosen for Jing Ke is truly the right one. The story takes a turn as Jing Ke is tasked with assassinating King of Qi, but Jing Ke begins to question the true intentions behind the mission. Is it to unite the kingdoms under one ruler, or merely to fuel the king's ambition for power? Jing Ke begins to see the world in shades of gray, rather than black and white, and starts to question the morality of his actions. Lü Zhi's feelings of guilt and responsibility towards Jing Ke's actions also grow, as she begins to see her son as more than just an assassin, but as a human being with his own agency and free will. She knows that Jing Ke's path is set in motion by the circumstances of his birth, but she also knows that he has the capacity to make his own choices and forge his own destiny. As the king's cruelty mounts, and more and more lives are lost in the wars between different kingdoms, Lü Zhi's loyalty to the king begins to falter. She starts to see Jing Ke as a potential force for good, a means to bring about change and justice to a world torn apart by conflict and bloodshed. With her son's reputation as a deadly assassin on the rise, Lü Zhi knows that Jing Ke's future hangs in the balance. Will he continue down the path set by the king, or will he forge a different path, one that will bring about a brighter future for himself and the people of China? The fate of Jing Ke, and that of Lü Zhi, hangs precariously in the balance as the kingdom teeters on the brink of war, and the course of history is forever altered.
